Pile Driving at Barton Pump Station week of April 15
Vibration and noise increases expected

Starting as early as Monday, April 15 crews will remove sheet piles installed during emergency work conducted after a large storm in 2006. These sheet piles need to be removed for crews to perform the pump station upgrades. Once the old sheet piles are removed, new sheet piles will be installed in the southwest corner of the site. During jet grouting activities, crews determined that soils in this corner were incompatible with the jet grout. As such, sheet piles will be driven into two areas of the site to ensure a safe underground work zone. Crews are scheduled to complete pile driving in one area now and will return in a few weeks to complete the second area.

Removal and installation of the piles requires the use of a vibrating hammer, which is expected to increase levels of noise and vibration. In an effort to mitigate these impacts, a portion of the pile locations will be pre-drilled and filled with sand.

The first phase of work is expected to be complete by Thursday, April 18. We will notify you again before the second phase begins.
