A boarded up house at 36th and Morgan Street SW was the scene of a fire on Sunday May 12. The Seattle Fire Department dealt with fire quickly and later boarded up the home again.

Thecause of a West Seattle vacant house fire at 6357 36th Ave SW was "spontaneous combustion of improperly disposed of stain rags," according to the Seattle fire Department. Damage done was estimated at $30,000.

Shortly after 8pm on Sunday May 12 a fire at the corner of 36th and Morgan broke out in house that according to neighbors has been boarded up and a nuisance for months. Seattle Firefighters arrived quickly and knocked down the flames.
The house, according to neighbor Andrew McCarty, has been vacant for months.

"The guy who had been living in the house was arrested more than six months ago for stealing. He'd been stealing in the neighborhood. This had been going on for a long time. There was meth involved and the Eastside Narcotics taskforce was out here a couple of years ago. The owner of the house boarded it up right after he got arrested. But there was suspicion in the neighborhood that there was still people in it. There were people in the neighborhood that saw people coming and going from the house. This is not surprising to us."
Firefighters put boards back up after the fire was out but the exact cause or amount of damage done was not immediately announced.
"The original owner of the house was an elderly lady who moved to a nursing home," said McCarty. When the man who according to McCarty was her son, was arrested "they recovered a lot of the stolen property."
