After a 10-month stint at the old Papa’s Pub on 16th Ave. S.W. in White Center, Meander’s Kitchen owner Miranda Krone announced via Facebook on Aug. 27 that she is meandering the breakfast joint a bit south, to 9809 16th Ave. S.W. where San Fernando Roasted Chicken was located before closing down.

Here is Krone’s note to her customers (from Facebook):

"Meander's will be closed for the next couple of days while we move one block down the street into a smaller space that I think will much more closely match the intention behind our place.

"I'm sure I'll end up writing up a big long thing about it later, but right now I'm plotting fall menu changes and a little tuckered out from raiding 2nd Use for cool stuff to build a coffee counter with.

"Feeling a little bit like Goldilocks..."This restaurant's too small! This one's tooo big! And *this* one's just right!" Mostly, though, really excited to have found a space in White Center that will really work for us. We're planning on being open Friday (Aug. 30) at 9809 16th Ave SW, and will keep you posted on the details."

In a followup, Krone added:

"The new building is very well-maintained with a more ample and well-equipped kitchen...more restaurant, less bar-style. There are fewer overall seats, but not so few as the old place. We anticipate that the food will come out more quickly. I think Sunday will always have a wait for tables, but it won't be near as brutal as the old shop always was. It does mean more reasonable rent and overhead expenses, and it also means a smaller, more manageable space so that I can focus more on making food and hanging out with you lovely people that come out to see us. That's the plan!"

Prior to moving to White Center, Meander’s was a popular breakfast destination along California Ave. S.W. in West Seattle’s Morgan Junction.

Meander’s most recent location at the old Papa’s Pub was made available after the owner’s of that bar faced a Washington State Liquor Control Board hearing in 2012 for repeated violations. Instead of attending the hearing, the owners surrendered their liquor license and called it quits. Papa’s was also allegedly used as a drug and gun trafficking front for criminals who were arrested in the federal “Operation Center of Attention” sting in 2011.
