Award-winning National Geographic photographer David McLain will share stunning images and profound stories of elders from around the world at the Providence Mount St. Vincent Foundation's 11th Annual Legacy Fundraising Luncheon on Oct. 3, 2013, in Seattle.

As witnessed while photographing the National Geographic cover story, "The Secrets of Living Longer," McLain will show, via a multi-media presentation, elders who are living vibrant, passionate and long lives and the profound effect of embracing one's Ikigai, or "reason for being" as it relates to longevity, fulfillment and happiness.

This year's luncheon theme is "Finding Your Ikigai--Discover Your Reason for Being No Matter Your Age" and McLain's presentation fits with Providence Mount St. Vincent's mission to offer older adults a loving home in its assisted living and skilled nursing facility as they age and continue toward the end of their life's journey.

"At Providence Mount St. Vincent we strive to help all who live here to find meaning and purpose in their lives, regardless of stage in life or the challenges often faced in aging," said Molly Swain, executive director of the Providence Mount St. Vincent Foundation.

McLain, who lives in North Yarmouth, Maine, with his wife and two children, in 2005 photographed "The Secrets of Living Longer" cover story for National Geographic, which took him around the world to illustrate what made elders strong and healthy into their later years.

"We look forward to David’s presentation. It’s an opportunity for each of us to pause and reflect on our own personal “Ikigai,” Swain said. "Beyond all the trappings of our modern world, what matters the most is very evident in old age and stands the test of time – being known, caring for others, and having purpose beyond oneself."

The 11th annual fundraising luncheon will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Seattle Sheraton Hotel, 1400 6th Ave., Seattle. Cost is $50 per person and reservations are required. Guests will be invited to make a donation to support residents and programs of Providence Mount St. Vincent. Donors who give $250 or more will be invited to attend a private reception with McLain immediately following the luncheon.
