Eileen Riddle is facing some serious hardship. She lost her home in a fire on Sunday Jan. 26 and all her belongings and worse, her husband in the last stages of terminal cancer. A fund has been set up at Sterling Savings Bank to help the family and donations of non-perishable food are being accepted at Boulevard Park Place Retirement Community 2805 South 125th, Seattle.
The fire that destroyed the home in the 9400 block of 30th Ave. S.W. on Sunday morning Jan. 26 was tragic, as many fires are, but for the Riddle family it was just the latest blow. Not only did Eileen Riddle lose all her valuables, and clothing in the fire, and almost lost her truck but it makes caring for her husband Greg who is in the final stages of terminal cancer, much more difficult.
The Red Cross, as well as neighbors, helped with getting them each a set of clothes and a few miscellaneous items. Eileen’s family is helping to find temporary housing.
The fire department estimates damage to the structure and contents at over $300,000. The cause of the fire was ruled accidental.

The Riddle family wanted to warn everyone that despite the fact that they had smoke detectors installed and working, this fire began in their garage and spread to the attic. Eileen was not awoken by the detectors, instead she was awoken by the sound of the fire which had already spread to the attic.
