Catsino, the annual benefit event hosted by Furry Faces Foundation, was back on Sunday. The event featured 13 table games, all to benefit local animal charities including Community Cat Coalition, Regional Animal Services of King County, and Animal Aid and Rescue Foundation (AARF). The event was held at Beveridge Place Pub located at 6413 California Avenue Southwest.

Organizer Teri Ensley introduced whimsical table games including Studless Draw, Texas Snip ‘em, Pig Craps and Cold Paw Poker, which were played at tables sponsored by local businesses, including Robinson Newspapers and the West Seattle Herald.

“I have been a volunteer for all six years it’s been taking place,” explained Bruce Menzies, who deals cards annually at the K9 Blackjack table. “There are new people, old returners and great associations. The event becomes smoother and gains more contributors each year!”
All proceeds will benefit Furry Faces Foundation, Community Cat Coalition, AARF and Regional Animal Services of King County. Attendee Brenda Donner said she appreciates the cohesion between the animal rescue groups.

“I liked the multiple non-profits that banded together to raise funds so that all of them benefitted,” Donner said. “I really appreciate that Beveridge Place is so community-oriented that they throw open their doors to host such events. The games were fun, and I enjoyed meeting other supporters of vulnerable dogs and cats who depend on us to keep them safe and to love them.”

More than 60 people paid $25 for “Catsino dollars” and hors d'oeuvres including a spicy artichoke spread and yogurt-filled strawberries. A silent auction featured items as diverse as Beatles memorabilia, and door prizes included a large pewter Wyoming cowboy belt buckle. Local animal groups displayed adoptable animals, and shared their rescue stories.

“My husband and I were adopted by a cat a decade ago, whom we named Roxanne,” explained Donner. “Now we are more cognizant of the needs of other not-so-fortunate animals.”

West Seattle resident Randi Weninger enjoyed the relaxed setting and the silent auction.

“I really like Catsino and look forward to it every year,” Weninger said. “I am always so pleased to see the amazing support of the community and local businesses that gather to support local animal rescue groups. This event is a wonderful way to put folks in touch with the community and give them an opportunity to help worthy causes all while having a great time. An all around great way to spend a Sunday with my West Seattle neighbors”

The event raised more than $4,500.
