With the future of Metro transit service hanging in the balance, Proposition 1, which would provide funding for buses and road maintenance, if approved in the April 22 election, is getting some rally support.

First is a rally today at 1pm at the West Seattle Senior Center, 4217 S.W. Oregon Street.

In attendance will be King County Executive Dow Constantine, Council Person Joe McDermott, City Of Seattle Councilman Tom Rasmussen, the 34th District Democrats, and the campaign for Move King County Now.

If approved, Proposition 1 would provide dedicated transportation funding available to preserve current Metro transit service levels and provide transportation improvements, including road preservation, safety and maintenance projects, by authorizing the King County Transportation District (KCTD) to levy a 0.1% sales and use tax and a $60 vehicle fee, each for up to ten years. Proposition 1 would also establish a low-income vehicle fee rebate of $20 and provide funding for a low-income Metro transit fare.

On Monday, April 14 a rally is planned for South Seattle College, at the clock tower (weather permitting...if it rains the rally will move to the Brockey Center), at 12 Noon. Councilmember Rasmussen and Council person McDermott will be there too, along with Wash. State Rep. Joe Fitzgibbon.

This is a student organized rally. Two bus lines currently serve the campus, 125 and 128. Both would see reductions in service if the proposition is not approved.
