The warm spring rain did not deter an impressive turnout at West Seattle’s Second Annual Bee Festival. The Bee Garden celebrated it’s first anniversary this year with a festive musical parade, lead by West Seattle High School band volunteers and their teacher, Ethan Thomas.
It was an enjoyable spirit lifting display of what it means to be a community. Starting at the West Seattle Elementary School, parade participants dressed as bees, were lead to the West Seattle Bee Garden at Common Park nestled in the High Point Community neighborhood. Booths of children’s activities were filled with kids excited to learn about the importance of bees. A DJ played in the park while attendees picniced and learned about the garden. Several information booths, local independent businesses and nonprofits lined 31st Ave. SW. where West Seattle residents could engage in casual conversation about community resources.
Since it’s construction last May, the West Seattle Bee Garden has been a national leader as an example of a successful urban bee project.
