information from West Seattle Community Orchestra
The West Seattle Community Orchestra is proud to present a unique concert for musicians and concert goers, as they conclude the 2013-2014 concert series.
The evening will feature an original composition by local composer, Robert Duisberg, “A Magyar Szimfónia” (Hungarian Symphony). “As this piece has been composed specifically for the West Seattle Symphony Orchestra, it in some ways reflects the development of the ensemble. With ever-rising excellence of the orchestra’s performance, so too the successive movements of this symphony are progressively more challenging, both technically and musically”, says Duisberg. The “Magyar Symphony” will be conducted by the composer Robert Duisberg. It includes three movements, “Fantasies”, “For My Dear Mother”, and “Old Songs”. The movements are a layered set of historical journeys: cultural, musical, and genealogical. The Hungarian influences are particularly noted in the third movement melodies and rhythms, coming from folk songs collected by Bela Bartok, composed by Bartok himself, and from Duisberg’s own work earlier in the Symphony.
For a special one night only, Kim Roy conductor and music director of the Seattle Rock Orchestra, brings in SRO’s vocalists and drummer, Tamara Power-Drutis, Andrew Vait, and Emily Westman. WSCO Musicians get the opportunity to learn new music, instrumental techniques, and enjoy the camaraderie of playing with locally renowned vocalist and instrumentalist. Beloved rock and roll classics from the 60’s to 2010 - this will be a rewarding musical experience for both the musicians and audience.
