The West Seattle 5K and Summer Streets festival kicked off to a great start under blue sunny skies as hundreds of people turned out for it. About 830 runners/walkers appeared for the run that kicked off at 9:20 am on May 18.
Forecasters were predicting showers during the morning start of the West Seattle 5K but mother nature had a different story opening up to blue skies and warm sunny weather that lasted well into the afternoon. About 830 runners/walkers showed up for the event that kicked off at around 9:20 am. The top three finishers for men and women who completed the West Seattle 5K are listed below:

Summer Streets kicked off around 11:00 am and wrapped up around 5:00 pm. Street vendors lined along the street of Alki Ave SW with various things such as a bicycle street course for kids, Seal Sitters with information about seal protection and different whale species that you can possibly see out in Puget Sound, face painting, bubble blowing station, DJ spinning records for entertainment, and finally a crazy and colorful bike parade featured by Alki BeachCreeps BC.
