The Chief Sealth Seahawks opened their 2014 football season with a home game match-up against Notre Dame High School out of Calgary, Aberta Canada. The Seahawks, under the leadership of Coach Simon tonight, took the field on a beautiful late summer afternoon perfect for a season opener.
Chief Sealth came to play and opened the season with a bang. On the opening kick-off, #2 Brady Crane found the lane and returned it over 80 yards for the first score, putting the Hawks up by 6.
Notre Dame found their composure and returned the favor...a few times. They hit Chief Sealth with a blistering running and passing attack, finding the end-zone time after time , and ending the first half with a long pass and TD with 3 seconds to go. At half-time, Notre Dame was up 30-6 and the Seahawks looked like they had been picked apart.
The second half was the best half of football delivered by the Seahawks in the last 3 years.
After the Seahawk defense held Notre Dame to 4 and out on their first possession of the second half, they got to work on offense. With precision passes and using both sides of the field, the Hawks pulled together a rally that included 5 straight completions from QB #7 Stevie Olinger to #10 Levontae Maxwell and #5 Alloney Burris. They capped off the drive with a 2 yard run and diving touchdown by #11 Camacho. After a beautiful lob into the corner of the end zone to Burris for a two pointer, the score was 30-14 at 8:12 in the third.
On Notre Dame's next possession, they drove to the Hawk's 30, but failed to convert after they were stopped on 3rd down by a ferocious hit by All-League running back #11 Daron Camacho.
The teams traded the ball a couple times with great physical football. Notre Dame finally found their strength again with some powerful running that dragged the Seahawks defense down the field. With a late surge, Notre Dame was in the end-zone again and ended the 3rd quarter in a draw, keeping the spread the same with a 36-14 score.
In the fourth quarter, Chief Sealth got down to the 2 yard line but were penalized out of a score. Notre Dame converted on their next possession, making the score 43-14. The Seahawks did not wither. They showed their heart and physical fitness and kept pounding on offense and defense. Finally, with the ball on their own 40, the Seahawks put together another beautiful drive, capping it with a 15 yard Olinger pass to Burris to the 5 yard line, and a 5 yard TD pass to Maxwell.
Final score - Notre Dame 43, Chief Sealth 20
Second Half Score - Chief Sealth 14, Notre Dame 13
