Dawn Schaper, Executive Director for Brookdale Senior Living West Seattle did the honors for the ribbon cutting signifying the new ownership and name change from Emeritus to Brookdale.
The Senior living center at 4611 35th SW that began as Merrill Gardens, then changed to Emeritus for a brief time has changed identities and ownership one more time to become Brookdale Senior Living. The company owns ten centers in the Greater Seattle area and more than 1,100 nationwide. It is the largest senior living company in the nation. The company also now owns the former Merrill Gardens/Emeritius location in the Admiral District on California Ave. SW.
The company, headquartered in Brentwood, Tennessee acquired Emeritus in February at a cost of $1.4 billion in stock, with the full transaction valued at $2.8 billion. Emeritus bought the 37 Merrill Gardens communities that were for sale in August of 2013. There are still Merrill Gardens communities and the company still exists.
Brookdale merged with Emeritus in July of 2014 to form The New Brookdale.
Emeritus as a company was dissolved in the merger.
Executive Director for the location on 35th SW, Dawn Schaper said, "With assisted living, buy-in, memory care, skilled nursing, and hospice Brookdale has all the options."
They've made a few changes in the facility since the acquisition including new carpeting, new paint, and new furniture is planned. "We are going to make changes on the city roof deck and incorporate collaborative care where we meet with the Brookdale Home Care team and we talk about the residents so we can support them holistically. Before somebody has a fall we are looking at things that can put them at risk, doing an assessment so that they can live a more forward thinking life," said Schaper.
Of the 81 total units in the 35th SW location they have 8 still open. Those are being actively considered by potential residents. Prices at Brookdale range from $2020 for a studio including all food and other costs to $4520 per month for the two bedroom top floor view unit.
There are 49 employees at the 35th location and 70 residents.
