Brianna Thomas joins race for District 1 Seattle City Council position

Brianna Thomas, Seattle area housing advocate and community organizer announced today she will run for Seattle City Council District One joining Chas Redmond, Amanda Kay Helmick, George Capestany, and Phillip Tavel in the race.
In a press release Thomas said:
“West Seattle has been known as a community where people can get to their jobs quickly, find affordable housing and know their neighbors while enjoying the benefits of a big city. I'm running because I'm worried that's changing,” said Brianna Thomas.
Brianna Thomas has been a community activist and organizer in and around Seattle for the last decade. In the last two years, Brianna was awarded the Warren G. Magnuson “Activist of the Year” by the Washington State Democratic Party, the “Excellence in Civic Engagement” award by the Institute For A Democratic Future and named one of “15 People Who Should Really Run This Town” by Seattle Metropolitan Magazine.
After graduating from the University of Washington, Brianna began her community work at the Church Council of Greater Seattle. She honed her policy skills in the offices of Democratic Senators Steve Hobbs and Bob Hasegawa. Brianna also fought against right-wing activist Tim Eyman as the campaign manager for No On 1185.
Two years ago, Brianna led the fight as campaign manager for “Yes for SeaTac”, the first initiative in the country to raise a city’s minimum wage to $15 per hour. Currently, Brianna is the Field Director for the Washington Housing Alliance Action Fund working across the state to ensure affordable housing for working families.
Brianna Thomas is a former member of the Philanthropy Committee at the Church Council of Greater Seattle. She is Vice-President of the Board at Working Washington, a boardmember at Washington Bus and serves on the 34th Legislative District Democrats Executive Board. Brianna also currently volunteers at the West Seattle Senior Center.
Brianna Thomas lives near the junction in West Seattle and spends her spare time as one of the most enthusiastic fans of the Seattle Seahawks.
