The Seattle Commodores hosted their 23rd annual Bowl-A-Thon at the West Seattle Bowl on Saturday, March 21st from 9:30 am until Noon. This event is held to raise funds to support the Seafair Scholarship Program for Women as well as the princess banquets at Salty's Restaurant.
Art Braden, Personal Officer of the Seattle Seafair Commodores told the Herald, "Don Roberts, a Seafair Commodore 30 years ago, rose through the ranks became Commodon, actually left the commodores and joined the executive committee and then became the president of Seafair. Don is one of our famous people and were really proud of him for starting the Bowl-A-Thon. When Don was promoting doing Bowl-A-Thons, most of the Commodores at the time in the behind the doors scenes executive committee kinda told Don your nuts nobody raises money at Bowl-A-Thons we don't think that is the right thing to do, we kinda said no for a number of years but he kept pressing and said hey its a good thing people have fun, it's an easy way of making money and having fun at the same time, finally they agreed and said ok Don we will do it and since day one its been worth a lot of money to the commodores and the foundation and Don should be praised for it. The average amount of money raised ranges anywhere between $5,000-$10,000 dollars."
