Jacked while waiting for a lift
May Day proved to be a tough day not only for the city but also for two people who were victims of a strong armed robbery as they waited for a ride share cab to pick them up on S.W. Genessee St. and Delridge Way S.W. The ride share company was redacted from the police report but was either an Uber or Lyft car.
According to the victims’ accounts they had just gotten off the bus around 3:13 p.m. and decided to call a ride share cab to take them home. As they were waiting two men came from behind the bus stop and demanded both victims’ wallets. Before either of the victims could respond the two suspects began punching the male victim and demanding he give them what they asked for.
The suspects kicked the male victim multiple times while he was on the ground and reached into his pockets to find his wallet. After finding his money the suspects then turned their attention to the female victim and demanded she also give them her wallet. After both wallets were handed over the suspects ran off westbound on Genessee St.
Both suspects are described as being male, either white or Hispanic, and each wearing baggy clothes. One was described as being thin wearing a black hoodie. The second suspect was described as also wearing a hoodie and having a beard. Both men were the same height, standing about 5’8.
Both suspects remain at large.
Bean can assault
A can of beans was the weapon of choice in an assault that occurred outside of a convenience store on the 9200 block of 35 Ave. S.W. on April 29. The two suspects entered the store just after 2 p.m. and were immediately asked to leave. The suspects have been the cause of disturbances in the store in the past and were instantly recognized by the clerks.
The suspects became agitated at being asked to leave and refused. One of the clerks walked over and escorted them out the door. As soon as they were outside one of the suspects began hitting the clerk with an unopened can of beans he had grabbed. The clerk tried to grab onto the man while the other clerk called 911 but ended up on the ground wrestling with the two suspects.
A police officer came upon the fight before the dispatchers called him and requested another unit to assist him. Once the three men were separated the suspects attempted to convince the officers that they had never entered the store and that the clerk had attacked them for no reason. A run of their names brought up a warrant for theft. Both suspects were arrested and booked for theft and assault.
