Youth sports
Little League
The road to Williamsport by way of Woodinville and San Bernardino starts Wednesday and maybe Thursday for either West Seattle or PacWest.
The two teams will play for the District 7 Major Little League (age 11-12) title at 6 p.m. Wednesday at the PacWest complex between Burien and SeaTac off Des Moines Way.
West Seattle hopes to get the issue over with that day with a win, while PacWest will be trying to force a second game for the state berth in Woodinville at 6 p.m. Thursday.
State starts July 25 for the winner, and from there the team would need to win the state title to get to Western Regionals in San Bernardino. The team would then need to win regionals to get to the World Series in Williamsport, Penn.
Meanwhile, the District 7 champion West Seattle Intermediate (50 foot away mound and 70 foot basepaths) team will open its state tournament Sunday at 12 p.m. at the South Kitsap West complex.
West Seattle will be awaiting its opponent as it has a first round bye.
State age 9-10 action opens July 18 in Cheney, the Juniors age 13-14 tournament July 18 in Vancouver and the age 10-11 tournament July 18 in Vancouver.
Swimming
Olympic View hosts Lakeridge for a 6 p.m. meet Thursday as Gregory Seahurst entertains Twin Lakes, Arbor Heights travels to Marine Hills and Normandy Park to Kent.
Arbor Heights comes home to face Olympic View next Tuesday with Normandy Park hosting Marine Hills and Gregory Seahurst traveling to Lakeridge.
Semipro
Highline Bears
The Bears will be traveling to Kamloops, B.C. for a Thursday through Sunday tournament this week.
Highline posted a 5-1 record to win the recent Kelowna Invitational Baseball Tournament.
Pro sports
Mariners
Seattle hosts the Detroit Tigers for a 12:10 p.m. game at Safeco Field on Wednesday, then the Los Angeles Angels come to town for 7:10 p.m. action Thursday, Friday and Saturday ahead of a 1:10 p.m. game Sunday.
The All-Star break follows with the game including Nelson Cruz of the Mariners in Cincinnati on Tuesday.
Mariners games can be seen on the ROOT Sports Northwest cable television network and heard on 710 AM.
Rainiers
Tacoma is in Reno playing the Aces at 7:05 p.m. Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday and at 1:05 p.m. Sunday.
The action will be carried on 850 AM and MiLB cable television.
Sounders
Seattle visits the Chicago Fire for 5:30 p.m. men's professional soccer action Saturday that will be televised on JOEtv and broadcast on 97.3 FM and 1360 AM.
Storm
Seattle is in Indiana for a 9 a.m. game Wednesday before coming home to play Phoenix at 7 p.m. Friday at the KeyArena.
The Storm turns around to visit Phoenix at 3 p.m. Sunday.
Reign
Seattle hosts the Western New York Flash for a 7 p.m. match at the Moda Pitch located at Seattle Memorial Stadium on Saturday.
Emerald Downs
The Auburn oval is open for horse racing action at 6:45 p.m. Friday and 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
