Original Post:
At about 4:13 p.m. tonight police began receiving reports of gunshots and a man injured on the street near the airport at S. 154th St. and 24th S. This is a developing story and will be updated tomorrow once more details are made available.
When Sheriff’s Deputies and medics arrived at the scene they found one injured man lying on ground with at least one gunshot wound (an exact amount was not available at this time). The injured victim died at the scene.
Multiple witnesses were on site and were also questioned.
These witnesses informed investigators that a black male wearing a t-shirt with a gold star on the front had run away from the scene. After air units and a K-9 unit were deployed they picked up a trail and began following it to an area blocks away from the scene. A single gunshot rang out from a wooded area and the subject was spotted and detained. It is unclear what prompted the gunshot. It is also unclear at this time whether this subject is a suspect or if he was with the victim and fled the scene for his life.
S. 154th St. and 24th S. are closed near the airport and probably will not be reopened until the early morning hours. Investigators are still combing the scene for evidence at this time.
This is a developing situation and will be updated as soon as more information becomes available.
