Camping out in sports storage shed
Officers arrived at 9100 block of California Ave. SW. on the morning of Friday, April 8 to find a surprise in a wooden shed used to store baseball equipment for youth sports. Staff at the facility entered the structure to gather equipment earlier in the day – and noticed the doorframe had been broken and marks from tools were visible by the latch.
Hidden behind poles of plastic bins and canvas sacks was a makeshift bed, complete with pillows, blankets, two bottles of soda and litter from sacks. There was also a green duffle bag, two space heaters and a bag of rotting trash. Next to the shed, a large plastic container had been filled with a liquid that seemed to be urine.
The victims decided not to take further action. Instead they gathered the trespasser’s property and placed it out of the bin with a notice for him to stay area.
Retention pond rescue
A Southwest Precinct Officer rescued a 2-year-old girl from a retention pond near her home in West Seattle on Saturday, April 9. The girl’s parents called 911 around noon to report that their daughter, who was last seen playing in the backyard, was missing. Officers arrived only three minutes later at the girl’s house in the Highpoint neighborhood. When the girl was finally discovered and removed from the water, she had no pulse and was not breathing. Officer Tyler Keating administered CPR – helping her gain back her breath and pulse and she was taken by medics to Harborview Medical Center.
Sleeping girl saved from car thieves
A 7-year-old girl was sleeping inside a vehicle which was stolen on the morning of Saturday, April 9. The child’s mother left the car running when she stepped inside a
7-Eleven near S. 116th St and Des Moines Memorial Dr.
When the woman left the store, her car and daughter were gone. Police searched the area looking for her burgundy, 1992 Toyota Camry.
Around 5 a.m., an officer found the vehicle parked near S. 136th St and 12 Ave S. The suspect was gone, and the child was still asleep inside. Police hope surveillance video from the store will help identify the suspect.
Wounded in Highland Park neighborhood
A man walked into a store located at the 9400 block of 15 Ave SW at 10:30 p.m. on Monday, April 11 – complaining about a gunshot wound to his leg. The clerk called police, who arrived and discovered that the 53-year-old victim had been shot by two teen boys. The victim said that the suspects were Latino – and one was wearing a baseball hat.
The victim reported last seeing the two suspects running away on 15th Ave. SW, and officers followed a trail of blood to the back of the store, where they found one .32 caliber shell casing.
Medics arrived on the scene to take the victim to Harborview Medical Center where he is recovering from his wounds. Officers are asking anyone who may know more information about this case to call the department at 206-233-5000.
