17-year-old slain in Burien
Officers responded to multiple calls around 11 p.m. on Wed., May 4 in response to a shooting at Spring Creek Apartments, 615 S.W. Ambaum Blvd. in Burien. Callers reported hearing an argument, followed by shots and then seeing a woman lying motionless in a common hallway in one of the buildings on the property.
One caller said a black man in his late 20s, wearing a red jacket, gray sweatpants and white shoes, was seen running from the scene.
Burien deputies found a 17-year-old woman, and medics pronounced her dead upon their arrival.
The search for the suspect began, starting around the apartment complex. Detectives interviewed the callers and other possible witnesses.
Officers decided that one 17-year-old black male who had been talking to the police had probable cause and they booked the suspect into the Youth Services Center in Seattle for investigation of murder.
Car chase in Burien ends in death
Gunshots were fired near S.W. 146th and 21st Avenue S.W. just after midnight on Wed., May 4. King County Sheriff 911 deputies responded to callers who heard shots and saw a truck speeding away from the area.
Soon officers were pursuing the vehicle. The chase lasted for several miles ending when the suspect’s truck turned into a driveway and got stuck.
Deputies got out of their patrol vehicles, giving commands to the suspect. The driver’s side door swung open and the suspect was seen holding an assault rifle, aimed at the deputies. One officer fired multiple rounds at the suspect, striking at least once.
Deputies and medic crews were unable to revive the suspect, who was identified as a 39-year-old white male living in Burien, and he died at the scene. The incident is still under investigation. No one else was in the suspect’s vehicle, nor inside the house that was hit by gunfire.
The deputy involved in the shooting has been with the King County Sheriff’s Office for almost two years. Following standard practice, he has been placed on paid administrative leave.
Pedestrian killed in hit and run in White Center
A man confined to a wheelchair was struck by a car while crossing the street in White Center early in the morning on Sun., May 1.
The victim, a 63-year-old Native American, was using a marked crosswalk near the intersection of S.W. 104th and 16th Avenue S.W. Deputies and North Highline Fire and Aid crews tried to render aid, but the man died from his injuries.
The driver of the vehicle, a 51-year-old man, first fled the scene but returned four hours later and turned himself in to deputies investigating the accident.
The suspect said he knew he hit something but thought it was a shopping cart. When he realized it was a person, he consulted with his pastor who advised him to come back and turn himself in. The man was booked for a felony hit and run.
