Stabbing at Safeway

Police were flagged down by a man at Safeway on 42nd Avenue S.W. around 1 p.m. on Sun., May 8. He said he had seen a couple whom he thought had just shoplifted from the store. When he approached them, he asked why they were stealing, and an argument ensued. Two more men got involved, who were there with the couple.

The victim reported that he had grabbed the woman’s purse and a container of Nesquick fell to the ground. Then the man pulled out a box cutter, slicing through the victim’s forearm, leaving a deep wound that would later require several stitches.

The couple got into a vehicle and fled away on 42nd Avenue S.W.

One man witnessed the incident. At first, he thought they were joking around but, after seeing the box cutter, ran over to help. He was too late to stop the suspects.

Another witness captured the license plate of the vehicle on a video on his cell phone.

An officer went to the address listed for the vehicle, but it was not there. An area search for the suspects was unsuccessful.

Robbery at Gunpoint

Officers responded to a call about a robbery at gunpoint in an apartment parking lot just after midnight Mon., May 9 on the 3200 block of S.W. Avalon Way. The victim described the suspect as female, slender, 5’2” tall and wearing all dark clothing and a ski mask.

The victim said he had returned home, parking his pick up truck in his usual spot in the alley behind the apartment complex, located at the south end of 31st Avenue S.W. He grabbed a flashlight to look for a brush inside the vehicle.

When he closed the door, he looked up and saw the suspect standing near back of the car. She walked towards him with a black automatic pistol aimed at his head and told him to give her his money.

He gave her all the cash from his wallet and tried to leave the area. She followed him for a while before he turned toward his walkway, and then she continued north towards S.W. Genesee.

The victim was unsure of how much cash he had in his wallet – but thought it was about $150.

A K9 officer searched the area for the suspect but could not find her. Then police received another call from an apartment two blocks away, where a male wearing a black hoodie, about 5’10” tall, was seen holding a gun and chambering a round.

The caller said that the man was at the top of the stairs in the apartment complex near the intersection of 30th Avenue S.W. and S.W. Nevada Street. Police searched the area but were unable to find the man.

Shooting in Burien

Deputies arrived minutes after getting a call around 12:13 a.m. on Thurs., May 19— reporting sounds of gunfire near S.W. 116th Street and Ambaum Blvd. S.W. in Burien.

A 17-year-old man had been shot in the chest and was lying in a parking lot of an apartment complex on the 11400 block of 16th Avenue S.W.

The deputies and medics provided aid to the victim, before he was rushed to Harborview Medical center for emergency surgery.

Deputies were only able to get a very limited description of the suspects from the victim, since he was badly injured.

The victim said he was shot by two Hispanic men in dark clothing. He was not sure if they fled on foot or in a car. A K-9 search was conducted, but the suspects were not found.

King County Sheriff Major Crimes Detectives are investigating the events that lead up to the shooting and looking into the possibility that drugs or gangs may have been involved.
