Burglars on the 8800 block of 24th Ave SW
Around 9 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 9, police responded to a report of a burglary on the 8800 block of 24th Ave SW. The renters of the house had left at 6 a.m. and returned around 8:15 p.m. to find the side door had been forced open. Burglars took a flat screen television, a computer and a few articles of clothing. Officers were able to take fingerprints from a VCR stand. The homeowner said he will look up serial numbers for the stolen items and follow up with the police.
Lawn mower lifted from the Bar-S playfields
Officers received a call about a burglary at the Bar-S playfields, located 6400 block of SW Admiral Way, around 4 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 7. The program manager reported that someone drilled into the lock, broke into the equipment storage shed and stole a new Kubota riding lawn mower valued at $7,000. The suspect also attempted to cut through a Plexiglas window. The program manager said that a witness saw a man leaving the area on the mower. Officers called the witness and interviewed him over the phone. He explained that he was at the park checking on another lock that had been cut, which was located on the chain blocking the back entrance. He said that an unknown male wearing a safety vest drove the lawn mower out of the park. The witness said that, since workers often drive around the area to cut the grass, he was not alarmed.
Break-in at the Health Club
Police were dispatched to the West Seattle Health Club, located on the 2600 block of SW Andover St., around 3:50 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 6. An alarm had been tripped and First Security responded, finding a broken window on the front of the building. Police found another broken window on the east side of the building. The security camera had been tilted up, away from the front entry. Police requested a K9 unit to survey the scene. The interior of the building was clear of any suspects. The filing cabinet by the front counter was pried open, as was a storage cabinet that contained climbing equipment. Officers were able to lift fingerprints from the filing cabinet.
Stolen laptop, daytime burglary
Officers were called to a burglary around 12:50 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 4. A man was in his house, located on the 5400 block of 49th Ave SW, when he noticed someone else downstairs. The man yelled, and the unknown suspect fled on foot. A laptop was stolen. Police believe that the suspect entered from a window on the ground floor, since footprints were found on the grass near the entry and fingerprints on the window frame. Police conducted a search of the area but were unable to locate the suspect.
