Burglar takes off with jewelry
Officers were dispatched to the 9900 block of 35 Ave SW at 7:25 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 16, after receiving a call about a forced entry. The victim said that, before arriving home at noon, he spoke to an unidentified white female, who was pushing a baby stroller, about a nearby bus route. Once he entered the home, he found that the screen to the back window had been pried off.
The victim said that, while there was no damage to his property, multiple pieces of jewelry were missing, including a diamond engagement ring, silver locket, gold and silver bracelets and silver hoop earrings. A jar of change was also missing.
He explained that before leaving the house that morning, he had left the sliding glass portion of the window open and unsecured. He believes that the woman outside may have been acting as a lookout. He said she was about 25 years old, 5’3’ tall and had blonde hair. She was wearing jeans and a dark shirt.
The victim had placed his hands on the screen and touched the surrounding areas of the window prior to the arrival of the police. Officers were therefore unable to take any fingerprints from the scene.
Woman stops burglar from entering home
A woman living on the 4000 block of 52 Ave SW found an unexpected guest in her house around 11 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 18. She had walked downstairs to find an unknown male sneaking through a north side window in the basement. When the woman screamed, the suspect fled on foot, through the backyard and into an alley. The victim’s husband ran after the suspect, but could not find him in the alley. Police also searched the area but could not find anyone. The suspect called the department’s non-emergency number, instead of 911, which resulted in a delay in dispatching officers to the residence. Police took the screen from the window to process it for fingerprints.
Three shoplifters descend on drug store
Officers responded to a report of a robbery at a drug store located on the 4700 block of 42nd Ave SW around 4:30 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 19. The manager said that the victim was no longer on the premise but had behind a written statement.
The woman, who worked at the shop, wrote that three females entered the pharmacy. She recognized them, because they have stolen items in the past. She walked up to one of the shoppers and asked if she could help her with anything. The suspect said no, while trying to hide Allegra allergy medicine, which she was in the process of stealing. A second suspect with a silver bag in her cart was asked to leave but refused. Instead, she walked to the back wall of the store and put Allegra boxes in the bag.
The suspects walked to the center aisle of the store, before scattering in different directions. The woman who pushed the cart picked up a package of Laughing Cow Cheese and threw it, hitting the store employee in her face by her left eye. The suspect laughed and called the employee names. The women eventually left, saying there was nothing the employee could do and then proceeded to spit on the victim.
