With temperatures in the 70's the annual Night Out event on Aug. 1 brought out plenty of families, neighbors and friends to parties all around West Seattle (and elsewhere) in the nationwide event, meant to fight crime and bring neighbors together. It's a potluck event with folding tables, some nicely decorated, a few events with live bands and lots of people getting to know each other better.
At some parties Neighborhood Captains organized the event and are part of local efforts to help one another in the event of a natural disaster. While violent crime has been in decline across the nation property crimes have seen spikes in some urban areas. Neighbors keeping an eye out can really help reduce crime and as Seattle Police remind citizens, it's best to call if you see suspicious activity in your area.
