A large tree in the center of Lincoln Park, familiar to thousands of park visitors for it's beautiful fall foilage has suffered a major branch loss, reports Photographer David Rosen.
"The famous tree in the middle of the park where photographers like to do family portrait sessions, high school senior portraits, etc has now been altered by mother nature, the red circle is where the tree is now altered."
Christina Hirsch with Seattle Parks explained. "This is a yellowwood tree (scientific name is Cladastris kentukea). The tree failed on Dec. 22, likely from a combination of weather effects and root/basal decay. We have recently planted a new grove of 5 new yellowwoods to augment the existing trees, replace the one that failed and plan for the future."
