A fire destroyed a two story home in the 8600 block of Fauntlee Crest SW early Tuesday morning. The blaze broke out shortly before 2 am and crews responded to the home in an area of twisting turning roads in Fauntlee HIlls. The home suffered major damage to the upper floors and fire crews were still actively on the scene looking for hotspots as the morning progressed.
The fire was upgraded to a two alarm briefly but then scaled back as the first responders were able to knock down the flames and get it under control. Two people and their cats were able to evacuate the home safely.
Fire investigators ruled the fire as accidental, and determined it was caused by spontaneous combustion of oil staining rags. The fire started on the deck and spread to the main living area on the second floor. Total estimated loss is $605,000.
