Arrest made in

double homicide

The gunman who allegedly shot and killed two people in the Southcenter Mall parking lot Sept. 12 was arrested last week.

On Sept. 22, Tukwila Police officers arrested a 53-year-old unemployed man without incident at the Port of Bremerton Marina after receiving a tip.

Police believe he knew the two victims, 17-year-old Ivan Payan Rojas and 27-year-old Alfonso R. Ayala.

San Antonio welcomes Burien donations

For two weeks, volunteers in Burien donated and sorted goods for the victims of Hurricane Katrina.

Three full semi-trucks and 2,000 miles later, those supplies are in San Antonio, Texas, bringing evacuees a measure of much-needed relief.

"Did we really do this? Yes," said Steve Denmark, a Highline School Board member and an organizer of Burien's relief effort.

"Did it work out? Yes."

On Sept. 10, the first truck - carrying baby and toddler supplies - headed for Texas, followed on Sept.

Local tennis professional Steve Walters again offers area tennis lessons at outdoor locations this summer. Walters, certifed Pro 1 by the United States Professional Tennis Association since 1986, has coached at some of the world's top tennis resorts and academies in Florida, Caifornia, Texas and Canada. Also he traveled on the men's professional tour, including the 1988 U.S. Open, as a traveling coach for world-ranked pros and nationally-ranked juniors.

D. M. shoreline meeting is set

The city of Des Moines is updating its Shoreline Master Program (SMP).

The plan, required by state law, establishes goals and policies for managing the city's shoreline resources.

Since it was first developed in 1988, Des Moines' Puget Sound shoreline has doubled through annexations in the Woodmont and Redondo neighborhoods.

The SMP is being updated to reflect these changes in the city and to meet current state requirements and guidelines.
