Murray the lock opener

A strategic part of Ballard’s economy will continue its historical operation as U.S. Senator Patty Murray (D-Wash) announced the full restoration of funding for operation at the Ballard Locks in 2006, last Friday afternoon.

The Locks were threatened with severe budget and operation cuts in 2006 amounting to $2.1 million. Maritime industry leaders, including Ballard Oil and Kvichak Marine Industries, began lobbying Sen.

Sundance bound Beavers

Twelve students from Ballard High School’s Video Production Program will be attending the prestigious 2006 Sundance Film Festival in January thanks to an educational grant package provided by the non-profit Sundance Institute.

The Sundance Institute has become internationally recognized in its support of independent filmmakers through its film festival and arts development programs.

Dante EVANS

Dante Evans was born Thanksgiving Day, 1915, in Lehi, Utah. He died Nov. 25, 2005, in Seattle the day after his 90th birthday.

Dante briefly attended Brigham Young University. He retired from Boeing in 1983 after 43 years as a machinist. There he designed and built the first mouse watering device for the early space program. Other jobs included concrete puddler, laborer, and guide on Hoover Dam, as well as a short stint as a cowboy.

Dante married Florence Peterson on Dec. 14, 1944.

Ralph Earl Ecklund

January 29, 1930 - November 20, 2005

Parents were Ruby Frances Bradshaw and Earl Frank Ecklund. Grandparents were Minnie Willis and William Bradshaw, and Anna C. Olson and Frank Emil Ecklund. The Bradshaws derive from England via Pennsylvania in 1723. The Ecklunds came from Finland and Sweden to Seattle in 1899.

The Ecklund family lived in the Broadview area from 1927, moving to California in 1937, returning to Leschi in 1938, and settling in Sunset Hill in 1946.

Ralph joined Boy Scout troops 123 and 57. He was confirmed at Plymouth Congregational Church.

Robert E. Erickson

Robert E. Erickson, [a/k/a as “Trygger”], 60, the son of Einar and Clara Erickson of Ballard, passed away in his home on Thanksgiving Day. Bob was born and raised in Ballard and attended Adams Elementary School, James Munro Jr. High, Ballard High and graduated from the School of Business at the University of Washington. Bob was an articulate man with a gentle spirit who was highly thought of by all who knew him. He is survived by his brother, Lawrence A.

Cops kill armed robber holed up in apartment here

Shortly after five A.M. on November 17, the Federal Way Police received a 9-1-1 call from a woman at 30602 Pacific Highway South. The women said she had just managed to escape from being held hostage by an armed man in a nearby apartment and that he was still there.

By chance, the Valley Special Response Team (SRT), a police SWAT team that covers the jurisdictions of Auburn, Federal Way, Kent, Port of Seattle, Renton and Tukwila, was at Federal Way police headquarters that morning.

Federal Way Police on the hunt for rape suspect

At approximately 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 4, a woman notified police that a man raped her at gunpoint in his vehicle near the 28800 block of Military Road in Federal Way.

The woman, in her twenties, claimed her assailant-a man she did not know-offered her a ride in his gold-colored Acura Integra and raped her at gunpoint in his vehicle along Military Road. The rapist let the woman leave the vehicle, and she walked to a local shopping center to call 911. Officers transported the woman to St.

I went with Elsbeth to the supermarket to buy a turkey for thanksgiving . She wanted

a Butterball and she wanted a hen, not a tom. But the darn things are covered with plastic and you can't see through it and maybe see something that would indicate what it was . You know. Like guys have big feet.

Along came a charming lady who didn't know any more about hens and toms than we did, her name is Mary Simpson

So I told her the only way to tell was to watch which bathroom they came out of.
