Skateboarders showed off their best moves during an open house and tournament at the Ballard Commons on Saturday, June 24. Skateboarding advocates set up information booths and a chair made out of skateboards was raffled off. The event was sponsored by the Seattle Parks Department and the skateboarding community.

The Seattle Parks Department says there are thousands of skateboarders in Seattle - roughly 20,000 - with only two public skate parks.

Skatedot

The smallest skating areas are less than 1500 square feet, which is a little smaller than half of a college basketball court. This kind of skate area is often referred to as "skateable terrain" and could include existing structures that were suitable and appropriate for skating. Conceivably, a person could walk through a skatedot on the way to work.
