Warriors win in a shootout

Surely the presence of good coaching was in place at Highline Stadium, not to mention, good goalie work by Jessica Kane in the shootout, where the still alive and smiling Seattle Christian Warriors coaches, Kelee Wall and Melissa Bennett, helped their team beat Bellevue Christian, 4-2, in the shootout after a 1-1 tie through regulation and two five minute overtimes of a 1A round of 16 state game Tuesday.

The Warriors improved to 14-2 on the season while the Vikings season ended at 10-8-1.

Kennedy dunks Mt Si.

The rains came down and the floods came up at Highline Stadium last Thursday, but the Kennedy Lancers still rose to the occasion.

Kennedy shook off the rain -- and the Mount Si Wildcats -- by a 2-1 score and advanced into Saturday's Class 3A girls soccer state quarterfinals that were played after press time.

Saturday's winner advances into the semifinals and possibly the finals at Sunset Chevrolet Stadium at Sumner this coming Friday and Saturday.

Lancers put old nemesis in their wake

Superior size and strength enabled John F Kennedy to carry a gorilla off the field Friday.

Behind six feet, four inch 286-pound senior tackle Kevin Freitag and the rest of the Lancers' massive line, running back Nate Williams exploded for 133 of his season high 202 yards on 27 carries to lead Kennedy (11-0) to a 24-13 win over defending Class 3A football champion Ferndale (10-1) in front of an estimated 5,000 fans at Highline Stadium in the first round of the Washington state playoffs.

Two groups oppose Burien

Opponents of the annexation of North Highline by Burien reacted negatively last week to the city's decision to declare the full unincorporated area a potential annexation area.

"The decision by the Burien City Council to declare all of North Highline as a planned annexation area is not in the best interests of our communities," according to North Highline Trusted Advocates leader Sili Savusa.

"Burien is a nice town, but does not have the resources or history of working with large ethnic minority populations."

Candidates reflect the community

Their talents range from martial arts with a fan to Bosnian folk dancing to a drill team routine to classical violin and clarinet and, of course, singing.

The contestants are literally from all over the world and from right here. They are all young, ambitious and committed to making a difference.

And ... all of them want to be Miss Burien.

One of these young ladies will become our new Miss Burien succeeding the reigning queen Melody Gilbert. The pageant will be held on Saturday, Nov. 18, at 7p.m.
