Burien families need your help

Every year, many families in Burien area struggle with daily expenses.

That reality, says Nicki Maraulja, community service officer with the Burien Police Department, makes Christmas "a burden instead of a joyful holiday event.

"It's difficult to buy the needed everyday items let alone anything extra," Maraulja noted in announcing the annual program of Burien Police Services to help local families in need.

"Many of my families are in difficult situations," she said.

Courts have backed Burien

Burien has been a community for more than 100 years and has been an incorporated city for close to 14 years. Ever since we became a city, the people have envisioned having a vibrant, alive "town square" in the middle of our downtown.

Through the years the community has worked to create a Town Square that will feature a wonderful park, shops, housing and a new joint library/city hall building.

From the beginning, the Burien community has been clear about the goals regarding this project.
