Praise for SeaTac mayor

We all need to applaud SeaTac Mayor Gene Fisher's leadership in organizing and addressing firefighters, union members, fire chiefs, elected officials and citizens regarding the necessity for the consolidation of services.

Prior to an informative presentation by fire services consolidation consultants, Mayor Fisher told a packed council chamber, in no uncertain terms, "elected officials can no longer tolerate turf protection and empire building than they can racism."

He stated that "the world has changed, as we must, after 9/11, to a regional approach of public protection;

Let's listen more and fight less

Sixty-five years ago, mighty ships were destroyed, multitudes of people were killed, and the wretchedness of "war" took our young people to their knees, or death.

If you were alive then, what were you doing on Dec. 7, 1941?

At Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, young American men and women found themselves fighting a war without warning or reason.

On that beautiful Sunday morning, Japanese bombers pulled a surprise attack on the United States naval fleet at Pearl Harbor.

Meet Jim Hughes

He is the owner/operator of Burien's popular Sal's Deli.

He worked for many years for the previous owner and decided to not change the name when he bought it. Many people still call him Sal and he just waves and smiles.

Jim is a Highline native, one of 10 kids, and attended Highline High.

Geraldine "Gerri" Oman

At age 82, Gerri died peacefully at Highline Medical Center in Burien on Sunday, November 26, 2006. She was a beloved wife, mother, sister, aunt and friend.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, William R. Oman.

Gerri is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Janis and Roger Thor; sister Wanda Jones and many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.

She retired in 1986 after a long career at The Bon March/.

No services will be held. Remembrances should be sent to Children's Hospital and Medical Center (Children's Hospital Fund), P.O.

Jason Lee Larson

Jason Lee Larson, 33, of Burien, passed away November 15, 2006. He was the son of Robert and Virginia Larson.

Jason is survived by his wife, Serena, niece Jacqueline, and sisters Jolee, Kelly and Robie and their families.

Jason excelled in sports, setting records in cross-country and track-some of which still stand. He loved friends, fishing and his dogs. He is loved and will be missed.

A Memorial service will be held Saturday, Dec. 9, 2006, at 1 p.m. at Normandy Park Ward of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 200 S. 177th St., Seattle.
