Four periods still debated

Contrary to reports in West Seattle Herald ("4-period day to be dumped," Dec. 6), the current four-period class schedule at West Seattle High School is not going to be eliminated.

West Seattle High School students derive many advantages from the four-period day schedule. These include the ability to earn 32 high school credits - vs. 24 in schools with six-period days - and the increased personalization they receive from spending more time in the same class with the same teacher.

Maybe walk more?

(Scott Anthony), it's funny how people will do similar things: I rented both documentaries in the same succession as yourself and I'll be damned if I don't feel like somebody let the air out of my tires.

I really enjoyed them both but, man, was I ever bummed out! Gawd, I've got to do something, maybe drive less. Walk the five blocks to work instead of driving. I don't know. Take the bus more. I can't afford a hybrid car.

Wouldn't it be nice if we put pressure on General Motors to start making those dang cars again?

Kiwanis thanks

Thank you people of West Seattle for your attendance at the West Seattle Kiwanis 60th annual Pancake Breakfast Christmas Party on Saturday, Dec. 2 at the Alki Masonic Hall. Boy Scout Troop 284 and their families filled in the Kiwanis ranks so the pancakes were well served. Mr. and Mrs. Santa Claus stopped in for a visit long enough to have their pictures taken with the young and young of heart.

What a friendly generous gathering See you folks again next year.

Other Voices - Do we care about a Darfur solution?

Today, we are witnessing yet another genocide unfold. In Sudan, the Islamist government based in Khartoum has slaughtered nearly 400,000 black Africans in the country's western Darfur region. Over 2.5 million people have been driven from their homes. In hastily assembled refugee camps, food rations have been cut in half due to shortages. Even in the camps, militias hired by the government are still marauding, raping, and killing the refugees.

Like so many genocides before this, the world's response has been pitiful.
