Surplus school buildings considered public assets

Seattle City Council members urged Seattle School Board members to ensure surplus school buildings are used as community assets rather than sold to the highest bidder at a joint city-schools meeting last week.

The district is currently evaluating 20 of its leased, interim and closed facilities to determine whether or not to sell or increase rents to make more money.

Team is 'one of the best you will see'

By Dean Wong

Bothell, Eastlake and Garfield high schools have all learned how good the boys swimming team at Ballard High has become as the Beavers defeated the traditionally strong KingCo teams.

The Beavers have steadily become a force under head coach Michael Bruesch, now in his fourth season at Ballard. Bruesch is predicting a 8-2 or 7-3 finish to the regular season. This would be the best win loss record in years at the school.

"This is one of the best teams you will see. We are real solid this year.

Trainer's Corner

Dark chocolate approved

By Annette Herrick

Chocolate: Trainer approved. Really!

That is dark not milk chocolate with caramel, marshmallows, and a cherry liquor filling. If we could all eat a little more than our weight and our world might be a little lighter.

I want you to do an experiment for yourself. Try about 100-200 calories of 60 percent to 80 percent dark chocolate, any brand. Likely it will be alternative and more expensive than what you're used to paying.

Notice how you feel during and after you eat it.

I've lived in on the same block for almost 20 years. For twice as long I've been one of those people who need to write.
