Final homes bought by Sea-Tac Airport for runway approach

The Port of Seattle is beginning the final phase of home buy-outs for its third runway project.

The port, operators of Sea-Tac International Airport, will purchase 29 single-family homes and apartments in the approach transition zone north of the runway. They are located on the south side of South 140th Street from Des Moines Memorial Drive South to Miller Creek. Many of the homes are in a cul-de-sac on 12th Place South.

Homes on the north side of South 140th Street and properties east of Miller Creek will not be bought.

Meet Jan Noorda

This Highline resident, when not doing house plans, works up a sizeable sweat six days a week at the Highline Athletic club and credits John Upthegrove with saving his life.

How so?

When John lost his eyesight and could not drive each day to swim his half mile, Jan volunteered to do the driving by arranging his day to help his friend.

Jan is on the machines while his friend swims.

Des Moines murder charges re-filed

Four charges of aggravated first-degree murder were re-filed by King County prosecutors last week against Leemah Carneh, who currently is being held at Western State Hospital.

Carneh, 26, is charged with the slaying in March 2001 of four people in their Des Moines home-Josie Peterson, 17, an Evergreen High School cheerleader, her boyfriend Taelor Marks, 17, and his grandparents, Richard and Leola Larson, 63 and 64.

The Larsons were shot, according to police investigators, while Marks and Peterson were brutally beaten.

Reward offered to locate

local BB gun assailants

November 14-Crimestoppers is offering a $1,000 reward and two bicycle clubs are offering another $7,500 to find the person or persons responsible for shooting bicycle riders and pedestrians with BB a gun.

The random attacks, which by Friday involved at least eight victims, one seriously, occurred in Burien, White Center, South Park and West Seattle.

Detectives said they believe two teenagers are responsible for the attacks.

Anyone with information is asked to call 9-1-1.
