Baby born on 9/11 is Sea-Tac's 30 millionth flier

Recognizing its busiest year ever, Sea-Tac International Airport honored in December a Seattle family's 3-month old baby boy as its "30 Millionth Passenger" for 2007.

This marked the first time that more than 30 million passengers have passed through the airport during a single year.

Sea-Tac, which also experienced its busiest month ever during the summer, was projected to serve over 31.3 million passengers before the end of 2007.

Three-month-old Ian Peyton of Seattle arrived at Sea-Tac with parents Tracey and Jana Marie, 4 1/2 year old sister Chloe, and grandp

Teen girl with asthma is missing

Jessie Schutz is missing. Her mother believes that she may be in Seattle, or possibly Tacoma, but so far no one Mrs. Schutz has spoken to or contacted has seen her.

At 16 years old, Jessie is apparently living on the streets and likely does not have her asthma medication. On Saturday, Dec. 15, she waited until her parents were at work and slipped out, leaving nothing behind to indicate her whereabouts.

Highline's grow own teacher plan is seeking participants

In 2003, the concept of the "Grow Your Own Teacher" program was born from a desire to reach out and extend the Highline School District's recruiting arms to find dedicated professionals in local communities who want to be educators.

Program parameters reflected support through district initiatives and funding, with a particular interest in connecting with individuals who hope to obtain an endorsement in hard-to-fill assignments such as math, science and special education.

The concept was easily and quickly adopted through a recruiting effort with community based organizat

Rams ride high against Evergreen, 58-23

Mount Rainier's Rams routinely rode roughshod early and often in a Thursday, December 20, Seamount League 58-23 win over visiting Evergreen to run their league record to 3-1.

Sophomore guard Marisa Blair's driving layup off the opening tip set the tone for the entire night.

Blair scored the first nine points of the game including a 3-pointer before Lyndsay Breed's outside shot and 3-point goal made the score 14-0 with 6:48 remaining in the first quarter. Forcing continuous turnovers, the Rams' Sarah Martinez and the rest of the Mount Rainier team scored at will.

Mt. Baker adventure a challenge

Would you like to climb Mt. Baker? That's what John Colver, the AdventX mountain guide, asked me earlier this year. He had gotten me up and down Mt. Rainier last year, so he figured I might be up for another challenge.

It's a good thing he waited a while after that Mt. Rainier climb to ask me because I'd have turned him down in a heart beat right after the Rainier climb was over.

The Bobs on the bus

By Lauri Hennessey

The other day, I heard about the Bobs.

Okay, I know that's a common name, and some of you may even know that I am married to a Bob... but this is a different kind of Bob, not the named kind.

"Bob" is what they call the people who sit on the "back of the bus" when it comes off the ferry boat. I live on Vashon, and the buses are a big part of our commute. I have always wondered about the whole commuter side of Vashon, those people who sit together on the bus every day and hang out.

Characters of West Seattle

Curt was 'the genuine thing'

By Emily Williamson

This series is a tribute to the West Seattleites, and the first one I would like to honor is Curt.

I never knew his last name. Curt from Leisure Books is how I knew him. I am sad he is gone. Aren't we all?

There is a soul to Seattle, a pioneer, cedar smelling, mossy, wild eyed, genuine essence.
