Condo design criticized

Developers of a new eight story condo planned for a corner many consider the "gateway to Ballard" will have to do more to acknowledge the important intersection if they want the approval of the Northwest Design Review Board.

The volunteer citizen board reviewed plans last week for Market Street Landing, a 226-unit condo above 31,000 square feet of retail proposed to replace the empty Denny's restaurant at 15th Avenue Northwest and Northwest Market Street.

McClure

Gaye Nell (Lawhead) McClure, born July 6, 1943, in Alluwe, Oklahoma, to Anna (Clingan) and Lester Lawhead, died Monday, December 17, 2007, after an eight-month battle with pancreatic cancer.

She moved to Seattle in 1945 and attended Seattle schools, graduating from Chief Sealth High School in 1961. She met Melvyn McClure in 1962. They married August 24, 1963, in Seattle.

She worked at Boeing for five years before taking 15 years off to raise three sons - Doug, Steve and Brian.

Margaret Dorr-Folsom

Margaret Ellen Fletcher Dorr-Folsom of Burien died of cancer on Sunday, December 16, 2007, at Stafford Healthcare in Des Moines at the age of 79.

Margaret was born in Dayton, Washington, on December 1, 1928. Her parents were Frank Victor and Lelah Anna (Swanson) Fletcher. She attended school in Dayton and Prescott, and graduated from Dayton High School in 1947. She was a princess on the Dayton Days court. Following high school, she attended Victor Beauty School in Walla Walla, and took some classes at Central Washington (College) University.

LeVerne Ivan Ballweg

Vern Ballweg, born December 29, 1930 in Cavalier County, ND, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on December 19, 2007. He is survived by his loving and faithful wife of 56 years, Grace Elaine Reiste Ballweg. Other family members include his son, Kenneth L. Ballweg, daughter-in-law Lynn E. Herzberger Ballweg , daughter Linda M. Ballweg Williams, and son-in-law Charles I. Williams. Vern's grandchildren are Daniel, David, and Dale Ballweg and T. Justin, Christopher, and Digory Williams. He has one great-granddaughter, Milee Ballweg and a great-granddaughter soon to be born.

John Anthony Kinsella

June 16, 1949 - November 26, 2007

JK passed away in the early morning hours of November 26 in his bed at home. John was a 13-year survivor of a Kidney and Pancreas Transplant.

John was born in White Center and was a proud and loyal member of that community for 58 years and was known as the leader of the herd. John was a free spirit who always marched to a different drummer.

He graduated from O'Dea High School in 1968, then attended Western Washington University in Bellingham for four years.

Arthur Louis Larson

Arthur Larson passed away peacefully on December 7, 2007 in his home at the age of 82 after a brief hospitalization for treatment of pneumonia. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 59 years, Jessie Leah Larson, on October 9th of this year. Arthur is survived by three sons John (Ana), James (Marilyn) and Todd (Maureen), three grandchildren Todd, Jr., Brianna and Caitlin, niece Marianne Rouse, nephew Edward Reichenback, Jr.

Eve Schumacher-Barnes

Eve Schumacher-Barnes Of Lake Mary Fl, formerly a long time resident of West Seattle Went to be with her Lord December 5 2007. She was 90 years old. Born Dec 21.1916 to William and Emma Davidson of North Freedom Wisconsin. She moved to Tacoma WA and enrolled in Beauty school. She met and married C.E. Bud Schumacher and moved to West Seattle where she co owned the Cottage of Beauty salon on California Ave.

"Liberty" to be theme at statue fund-raiser

"What does liberty mean to me" will be the theme of a fund-raiser for the Seattle Statue of Liberty Plaza Project. Major donors are invited to a gala event, 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Thursday, December 27 at Duke's Chowder House at Alki.

The evening will be emceed by Dave Ross from KIRO News Radio, interviewing Mayor Greg Nickels, City Councilmember Tom Rasmussen, King County Councilmember Dow Constantine, other civic leaders and sports figures about their thoughts on liberty.

Richard Stanley Seymour

R. Stan Seymour, born in Seattle on Dec. 6, 1916, passed away in Gig Harbor on Dec. 11, 2007. Miriam, his wife of 65 years, preceded him in death in July of 2007. Family members include his son Ric Seymour, daughter Lucinda Wingard, and son-in-law Joel Wingard, all of Gig Harbor. Stan's five grandchildren are Tyler, Gabriel, Adiza, Joshua, and Adam.

Stan earned a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering at the University of Washington a few months before the attack on Pearl Harbor.
