Boozy snooze

A local 26-year-old was so impaired by alcohol that he fell asleep in the drive-thru of an Admiral restaurant. Witnesses called 911, and officers arrived in time to see the car drive erratically and without signaling as it left the business. The driver pulled over and turned off the ignition, providing unexpected entertainment for the officer who watched him repeatedly try to lower the power window for a chat.

20 residents in Shorewood forced to move by slides

About 20 residents of the Shorewood neighborhood in North Burien were forced from their home Tuesday morning after a landslide pushed a wall of mud onto the street that provides access to their property. Eight homes were evacuated. According to Scott LaVielle, Fire Chief, North Highline Fire District, 11 homes were "yellow-tagged" and two were "red-tagged" in the residential neighborhood that features views of Puget Sound and Vashon Island. City of Burien personnel tagged the homes with yelow tags if they were safe for limited access.

Chief Sealth to be

shortchanged

I agree with Chris Jackins, and he should be skeptical of the Sealth-Denny project, what was promoted and sold to the staff at Sealth was a state-of-the-art facility.

The reality is that the school that generations have attended and been attached to is going to disappear. Chief Sealth was promised a completely renovated gymnasium. That will not happen. They were promised a complete remodel on the auditorium. That will not happen.

The newly renovated library will be cut in half to make way for new classrooms.

Bikes benefit others

I rolled my eyes, yet again (editorial, Nov. 28).

When it comes to bike issues, you don't know, Jack!

Next time talk to Stu (owner of Alki Bike and Board) or myself (owner of Aaron's Bicycle Repair). We both have good information to share with you on bike issues and can direct you to organizations like The Bicycle Alliance, Cascade, etc.

Bicycles increase the quality of life for others besides just the person biking.

Thanks for donations

A special thanks to all of the businesses, groups and individuals who donated so generously to the White Center Food Bank for the Thanksgiving distribution.

We are especially grateful to Discount Tire Company for their donation which allowed the purchase of whole turkeys to give to larger families.

The White Center Food Bank served 579 families made up of 2,149 individuals. These families were provided all of the trimmings for a traditional Thanksgiving meal.

Tent City residents are

good neighbors

One of the things I like most about West Seattle is that it is a caring community, especially when it comes to our children. I appreciate and share Sally Hardwick's concern for kid's safety (letter, Nov. 28 issue).

Fauntleroy Church UCC, of which I'm a member (and not writing on official behalf of), recently explored whether to host Tent City 3 this winter. One of the first things the Outreach Ministry explored was Tent City's safety record.

Biased cartoon in

poor taste

It is too bad that you saw fit to publish Jeff Johnson's Political Cartoon in (the Nov. 28) edition of the West seattle Herald.

It is a very unfair and inappropriate characterization of Dino Rossi. Political views aside, it is very rare to see such a poor example of political humor in any context.

Most examples have some viable truth of character portrayal in them. Not so here.

So off the mark that it paints a poor picture of the credibility of your entire publication.
