City car thefts down in Seattle

Car thefts in the region have been declining so much the Seattle area is no longer on the top-ten list nationwide for highest number of car thefts.

The Seattle metro area was ranked sixth in the nation per capita for car thefts, but a 2007 study shows that the region has dropped to 16th.

Prosecutors credit the decline to the work of local law enforcement and the King County Prosecutor's Car Theft Unit, which was formed in 2005 in an effort to crack down on the skyrocketing number of car thefts in King County.

Highline students selected as state aerospace scholars

Eighteen students from Highline Public Schools have been selected into the Washington Aerospace Scholars program.

Seventeen are students at Aviation High School; one is from Mount Rainier High School. A total of 225 students were selected statewide.

Washington Aerospace Scholars is an educational program for high school juniors from across Washington.

SeaTac begins branding effort to lure businesses

SeaTac has launched a new comprehensive marketing campaign in support of the new economic development brand, Everywhere's Possible.

The objective of the campaign is to make information about economic development opportunities in SeaTac easily available, with the ultimate goal of attracting new business, development and investment to the city.

"The City of SeaTac is the portal to the Puget Sound region connecting to the world through the airport and connecting to the region through highways and light rail," said Todd Cutts, economic development manager.

Raiders enter tournament action

Little did Thomas Jefferson High's girls fastpitch coach Chad Fahnlander know his new starting pitcher would become a dominant force in the South Puget Sound League in 2008.

"If you told me before the season started that she (Jessica Dickson) was going to become the kind of pitcher she is now, I would've made a double-take," Fahnlander said.
