Story 'totally incorrect'

The reporting of events at Critical Mass in this story (Aug. 6, page 2) is totally incorrect.

Six bikers surrounded the car when it tried to push into the cyclists riding in a group. The driver ran over the bikers in a rage after executing a three point turn on the sidewalk. After stopping at 15th and Aloha one person popped his tires, one person smashed his windows, and one person hit him with a U-Lock. After that he walked half a block back up Aloha and sat on the curb while people attended to the three people he ran over.

Growing Pains

For reasons we can only guess

This year our garden was a mess

And neither Husband Dear nor I

Could help, despite how hard we'd try

And yet, just slightly to the north

Our neighbor managed to put forth

The kind of yard I've only seen

Displayed in Sunset Magazine

Although we didn't try to match

The harvest of her garden patch

Robinson Newspapers to hold cancer event

In February, West Seattle Herald reporter Tim St. Clair died at age 57 of pancreatic cancer.

Called "a legend in West Seattle journalism," St. Clair worked nearly 20 years for the West Seattle Herald and White Center News.

Now, Sheila Lengle, advertising manager for Robinson's south-end newspapers, is battling breast cancer. She is in charge of advertising for the Highline Times, Des Moines News, SeaTac News and Federal Way News.

Company leaders have decided to show support and help raise some funds to benefit the Puget Sound Affiliate of Susan G.

Bike route travails

I had to smile, chuckle and groan at your imaginary ride (View From The Saddle, July 9). As a West Seattleite I ride that route often whether commuting or training and I have encountered all of the situations you described. From May to September I usually just ride the road and avoid the "bike" path altogether. I'll take a car over a small child on a razor scooter any day for predictability.

I did want to share one particular occurrence I see from time to time and once caused me to crash (bias alert) on this route.

Vote for Gov. Gregoire

We face an important and rapidly approaching primary on August 19. Fortunately there is a clear choice for governor. As a 20-year resident of West Seattle, I encourage all my neighbors to cast their ballot for Gov. Gregoire. The governor works tirelessly for Washington families, focusing on the issues we care about. Environmental protection in particular was a cornerstone of her first term.

Puget Sound waters surround the residents of West Seattle. Commuters travel over or across these waters daily.

Horrible coverage

I would like to comment on the absolutely horrible coverage your paper provided for the Edible Garden Tour of West Seattle. The people who create these gardens, I am one of them, work very hard at them for many different reasons. The fact that the article focus's around Ron and Pat Dahl's birds in insulting. Their garden is amazing (as are the other nine on the tour) and it isn't even mentioned. Do you seriously think that anyone reading this article will understand what this tour is about?

Students take summer programs to improve skills

It's "books over beach" for more than 100 area high school students taking part in on-campus summer programs designed to help them improve their academic skills and success.

The free summer sessions at South Seattle Community College also give students the opportunity to experience life on a college campus, while becoming familiar with resources available to help them succeed.

Let's Talk Going Green - Saving $ to go green

I love the disinfectant wipes you can buy (Clorox Wipes, Lysol Wipes), but they are expensive and not environmentally friendly.

So, when I am making my own baby wipes and house cleaners, I take the time to make my own disinfectant wipes. They do not use bleach or anything chemical, I simply use a mixture of vinegar, water and essential oils, including tea tree oil which is said to have disinfecting properties. I figure I am paying one-sixteenth or less of the price of one of those tubes of the commercial wipes.
