King County Councilmember Pete von Reichbauer met with Korean Consul General Haryong Lee, King County Executive Ron Sims and Federal Way City Councilmember Mike Park this week to discuss international relations between the Republic of Korea and the United States as well as the importance of international trade in King County.

Masters times offered

The Federal Way Masters swimming team for ages 19 and over is now offering three workout session times at the Weyerhaeuser King County Aquatic Center located at 650 SW Campus Drive in Federal Way.

Monday through Friday a 5:30-6:45 a.m. and a 7-8 p.m.session are offered, with a 6:50-7:50 a.m. session taking place Tuesdays and Thursdays. A 10:15-11:15 a.m. session is offered Monday, Wednesday and Friday.

Saturdays an 8-9 a.m. session is held at the Kenneth Jones Pool (Federal Way High School).

Steel Lake ends with Tough loss

While the Steel Lake Senior All Stars powered to the 15 and 16 year-old 2008 Washington Little League state championship and Federal Way National competed in the state 10-11 year-old baseball tournament, other area baseball and softball teams have also been excelling in tournaments at other sites.

At Freedom Field in Mill Creek Sports Park, the Steel Lake Little League All Stars dropped their opening game of the 13-team state tournament on Sunday, July 20.

Swimmers stand out under Southern spotlight

The Southern Division Championships came and went, but not without a lot of water-aided fanfare of excellence from both the Marine Hills Fish and the Tree and the Twin Lakes’ Penguins Seattle Summer Swim League teams at the Lakeridge Pool water in Renton Thursday.

So many swimmers from both area clubs swam well.

“Best times for everyone,” said Penguins coach Lucas Willers.

Shooting suspect in custody following Dash Point-area murder

On July 18, at approximately 12:56 a.m., officers were dispatched to a shooting at the park at Dash Point Apartments, located at 317th and 50th Lane Southwest in Federal Way.

When officers arrived a 25-year-old white male victim was located and determined to have suffered fatal gunshot wounds.

A second 22-year-old white male victim was later discovered at Auburn General Hospital, he was later transported to Harborview where he remains in serious condition.

Meet Rick Gould

A mailman for 35 years Rick is retiring this month from his six-day tour of duty sorting and delivering the mail to 440 homes.

He got his kicks on Route 66 that includes Gregory Heights and Three Tree Point.

He also put in four years as a cook in the Navy during the Viet Nam War.

An affable guy, he sometimes finds a few moments to chat with residents along his mounted route.

Pac West wins state

SPORTS CORRESPONDENT

While the Pac West Seniors and the West Seattle 10-11’s battled at state, other area teams found state action at other sites.

The District 7 Big League Baseball team comprised of players from Southwest Little League, Pac West, South Highline American and West Seattle competed in the Western Region Big League Baseball tournament after previously winning the state championship.

Nevada state champion District 2 Las Vegas dropped the Washington District 7, 7-2, on July 17, at the Kitsap City Ball Park in Bremerton.

Swimmers compete at Southern meet

RENTON--It’s not hard to see who was the top team nor who was the top finisher, and the “love” was spread out well in those two categories, as Normandy Park was the top team of the local summer swim clubs, and Olympic View’s Chase Onstot was the top swimmer at the annual Southern Division SSSL Championships at the Lakeride Pool in Renton Thursday.

“Our kids swam best times, that’s all you can ask for,” said NP coach Alex Beyer of this Seattle Summer Swim League event that pits best swimmers from all the eight teams in the SSSL.

Fallen firefighter began career in Burien

South Pierce Fire and Rescue Chief Dan Parker, 49, who was killed in a California wild fire last week, began his career in Burien.

Packer was part of a team assigned to fight a 250-acre blaze 15 miles from Happy Camp, California, near the Oregon border.

Packer and another firefighter were observing the fire when the blaze overcame them.
