Keepin' It Real With Renae: It's your life, your community, your responsibility

You've got the facts about drug and alcohol abuse. You've already decided you're never going to abuse. No one in your family has a problem. You live in a nice neighborhood so you're sure nobody you know is using illegal drugs or abusing alcohol.

So why should you worry about whether your community is drug-free? Isn't someone else taking care of that problem?

The truth is that almost nobody lives a life that is untouched by drugs or alcohol in some way. Drugs are present in every kind of neighborhood.

NEW Council approves incentive zoning for neighborhoods

Developers who want to build above existing height allowances in Seattle neighborhoods will now have to offer some of the increased space at an affordable rent.

The change occurs after the Seattle City Council approved both a resolution and an ordinance to apply incentive zoning to neighborhoods at a Planning, Land Use and Neighborhoods Committee meeting on Dec. 10.

The Workforce Housing Incentive Program is designed to encourage a wide range of affordable housing in the city.

New book documents Federal Way's rich history

I met Marie Sciacqua sort of by accident.

Tucked away in one of the dimly-lit back rooms of the Federal Way Historical Society's old house on Fishers Pond, Marie sat quietly, her fingers working swiftly through catalogs of old photographs documenting the city's past. I hadn't noticed her when I walked into the room to photograph the old newspaper archives the Historical Society has on file, and she startled me when she spoke.

I remember having to ask her to repeat the pronunciation of her peculiar last name.
