Marquez, who describes herself as "a third generation West Seattleite" will attend the premiere on Sunday, Nov. 4 at 1:40pm.

The film's story follows Cambodian-American heroine Sovanna (Sophea Pel), who receives a letter claiming that her long lost brother and sister are still alive. In a snap decision, Sovanna ditches her evening routine of drifting through hipster dive bars to brave a solo journey through the backroads of Cambodia in search of her two missing siblings. Ballardite to be in new adaptation of French play

Lara Fox, and opera singer who lives in Ballard, will play cross gender roles in Molière’s Les Précieuses ridicules. She will be playing the character La Grange in both English and French.

Le Théâtre Français will be presenting two performances of the one-act play on the same night, one in French and one in the new English translation by the Director, Professor Scott Taylor of Western Washington University.

“Rather than use the common translation of Precious Maidens Ridiculed, I have translated the title as Princess Butterflies because it evokes both the flightiness and beauty of the play’s two main female characters, Magdelon & Cathos," he said.

Audiences won't just be treated to two different languages, though, but will experience two entirely different styles of theater.

The English version, presented first, will be set in modern day Hollywood with the main characters playing Hollywood starlets and over-the-top metrosexuals. The French version will be performed in a bouffonnesque, circus-like stylein the tradition of Jacques Le Coq.

You Are What You Eat: Soda, coffee and booze – a trio of trouble

By Katy Wilkens, MS, RD

Sugary soda, flavored coffee drinks and alcohol have a problem in common with fruit juice. They don’t make us feel full, so when we drink their calories, we still eat just as much. And since they often come in 16-, 24- or 32-ounce sizes, they increase our tendency to drink two, three or even four servings at a time.

Soft drinks used to be a treat, like a candy bar or an ice cream cone. You might have one once in a while, on a special occasion. Now, 90 percent of children and teens drink sweetened beverages every day. Most are at least double servings, which means the calories are doubled too, coming in at 200 to 350 calories each. Drink one every day, and you’ll gain two pounds a week.

In the 1970s the average teenage boy drank five glasses of milk a day and one soft drink. Now, many teens drink four or five sodas a day, and one glass of milk. When they get older, they will be at high risk for bone disease because they are substituting empty-calorie soda for milk, which is rich in calcium and vitamin D.

A man and woman are behind bars and facing first degree assault charges for allegedly firing several shots into the bedroom of a White Center woman who was sleeping with her 9-month-old baby on Oct. 7.

Charges in the case were originally reported by Seattlepi.com.

Asleep with her infant, the victim told police she awoke to the sound of gunfire and the sight of bullets coming in through her bedroom window, shattering glass and tearing into walls. She grabbed her child and ran to the living room where she called 911.
