Don't miss: Argosy Christmas Ship Festival tonight, Dec. 18

Joined by the Dickens Carolers Choir, the Argosy Christmas Ship Festival will be making it's way around Ballard tonight.

The Argosy Christmas Ship festival is a holiday celebration that has been a Northwest tradition for 62 years. Its main purpose is to bring communities together to celebrate the holiday season.

It will be leaving Shilshole Marina at 7 p.m., make it's way to Ballard Locks to play music between 8:10 and 8:30 p.m., and come back to Golden Gardens for a little beach-side caroling from 9:05 to 9:25 p.m., before heading back home to Shilshole Bay Marina.

While the Argosy boat is all booked up, it's still possible to get in on a parade boat, $25 for adults and $12 for youth. For more info, visit http://www.argosycruises.com/themecruises/xmasSchedule.cfm

Letters to the Editor: Reconsider location of Urban Rest Stop

Dear Editor

I am writing in response to your front page article in the December 14,2012 edition of the Ballard News-Tribune

The concept of the Urban Rest Stop makes a great deal of sense to me. As a resident of NW 57 Street in Ballard, while I support the concept, the location does not make sense to me. The article barely mentions the concerns of the residents. The concern that is mentioned, that of insufficient space, is brushed away by an assertion that this is not an issue at the other two locations. This gets me to my point that Ballard is very different from the other locations.

The Urban Rest Stop:

1) It is very close to the Public Library which is full of children of all ages.

2) It is a half block away from the children's park at Ballard Commons. Mothers push strollers down the residential sidewalk, which is half as wide as the downtown sidewalks . Despite assurances to the contrary, we are sure, at times, the sidewalks will be congested with people waiting for appointments or waiting for their friends using the rest stop or who hang out in the area.

Letter to the Editor: Kohl-Welles not 'stripped' of chair, necessarily

By Sen. Jeanne Kohl-Welles

To the editor:

While I very much appreciate your efforts to provide context for what’s happening in the state Senate (“Carlyle, Tarleton get on board with important committees; Kohl-Welles stripped of hers,” Dec. 14), and that the details in the article are accurate, I am concerned that the headline confuses the facts.

EL boys undone by third quarter

FEDERAL WAY - Evergreen Lutheran head coach Dave Linder briefly discussed the definitive aspects of the boys basketball 68-55 SeaTac 1B League basketball loss at Christian Faith on Friday, Dec.14, on the basketball court of the EX-3 Ron Sandwith Teen Center.

"It was the end of the third quarter," he said. "Christian Faith is a good team and we couldn't stop No. 4 (point guard Afari Richardson). Then Vick Toor joined in. Every time we needed to make a play, we turned it over. The boys fought hard, but fell a little short."

In a matchup of teams featuring Eagles as their mascot, the breakaway sequence was preceded by four ties -- the last at 41-41 with just more than three minutes left in the third quarter - following a 30-27 CF halftime edge.

Isaiah Bergemann of the Des Moines-based Eagles drained an outside 10-foot jump shot for the final deadlock, but a Christian faith steal led to a layup by C.J. Cabiles. Cabiles followed up with a lay in that Karl Leitzke countered on a put back basket to draw EL within 45-43 with 1:15 showing.
