Sentence given in case of corrupt King County Sheriff’s deputy

By Tim Clifford

A sentence of one year and one day was handed down to Darion Holiwell, the former King County Sheriff’s deputy who pleaded guilty to 3 felony charges.

Holiwell pleaded guilty to a second-degree promoting prostitution charge, first degree theft charge, and one count of violation of the Uniform Controlled Substances Act. Holiwell was officially fired from the King County Sheriff’s Department 3 weeks ago.

Initially Holiwell entered a plea of “not guilty” but reversed his plea after making a deal with prosecutors during Monday’s hearing.

“It was a good resolution in the case, he pleaded guilty as charged. He is being held accountable for his actions and is going to serve a sentence of one year” said Dan Donahue, the media relations manager for the King County Prosecutor’s office.

New park coming to the Gatewood neighborhood

An informational meeting about the upcoming demolition and restoration of property donated to the City of Seattle in the Gatewood neighborhood of West Seattle is being held by Seattle Parks on Saturday, August 16, 2014 from 10 to 11:30 a.m. at the donated Watton property, 3823 SW Willow St, Seattle 98126 in West Seattle. It will become a neighborhood park.

Parks received the Watton property and funding to demolish the house as a reserved life estate donation from George and DeLayne Watton in 1999.

Parks is working to complete the permitting for the house demolition and anticipates demolition work will occur on September 15, 2014 with restoration of the site and establishment of turf to be completed by April 2015.

George Watton donated the remainder interest in the property in 2014, about a month before he passed away at the age of 95. The Wattons bought the property shortly after he returned from World War II and built the house in 1948.

Parks will work with the contractor to minimize the impact to the neighborhood during this work.

Reuben's Brews turns two

Reuben's Brews announces birthday party plans

Since opening on Aug. 5, 2012, Reuben’s has brewed over 50 different beers; served a lot of pints to thirsty patrons; won dozens of local, national and international awards; and donated several thousand dollars to local non-profit organizations largely through its Thank You Thursday program.

We truly can't believe two years has already passed! The amazing support we get from the community makes it all worthwhile. Because of that, we’re able to do what we love to do every day. We couldn’t be more appreciative and look forward to brewing more great beer for many years to come!

In honor of the occasion, we have created a new brew - Full Monty IPA! A 4.5% IPA, this beer is light on alcohol by full in flavor - it's definitely the Full Monty. Large amounts of Citra, Amarillo and Galaxy hops provide a hop profile full of watermelon, tangerine and peach. A little bit of rye and a British yeast strain keeps body in the beer which defies its lower ABV status. A tasty, refreshing brew especially in these summer months!

We wanted to let you know about the celebrations we have coming up this week:
