KENT - Four Mount Rainier girl golfers scored in double figures in a 53-28 victory against visiting Kent-Meridian on the par-36 front nine at the Riverbend Golf Complex on Thurs., Sept. 11.

The Ram coaching staff was pleased with the efforts shown by each golfer.

"We want to improve each match and end up playing both days at the district medalist tournament," said coach Rob Caudillo. "Taylor Prkut has really improved in her consistency and has shown the fruits of her four years of labor after ."

Coach Jeff Mills has also seen other girls take up the same work ethic of Prkut.

"The younger girls have seen what Taylor has done and have bought into everything," he said. "You will see some major improvements towards the end of the year. We love the good weather. These nice days help, because the girls have enough to deal with without the added problems of rainy conditions."

Amanda Inthavong (junior), Alyssa Metzger (sophomore) and Jill Ringoen (junior) are key returners along with Prkut (senior). Savannah Jones (senior) played her first varsity match against the K-M Royals.

West Seattle woman charged with rape

By Tim Clifford

A second-degree rape charge has been filed by the King County Prosecutor’s office against West Seattle resident Chantae Marie Gilman stemming from an incident last summer. After analysis of DNA samples taken from the victim and the accused were finished being tested the charges were officially filed earlier this month.
“Although it is not common to have a woman as a rape suspect, it is also not unheard of,” said Rich Anderson, Senior Deputy Prosecuting Attorney with King County of the allegations.
The incident in question took place in the early morning hours of June 17, 2013 when the victim, a 31 year old male, awoke after a night of partying to find Gilman, a 28 year old woman he had never met, on top of him and in the act of having sexual relations with him. Once the victim realized what was happening he demanded that Gilman leave his apartment and struggled to get out from under her once she refused to leave or stop what she was doing.
According to charging documents Gilman and the victim at that time were neighbors living on the 9200 block of 18 Ave. S.W. who shared a common friend in another neighbor.

SLIDESHOW: West Seattle Wildcats open at home with nail-biter, heart-breaker

by Paul Moseley

The West Seattle Wildcats held their home opener tonight at SWAC in a non-league game against the Washington High Patriots out of Tacoma. The Wildcats and Patriots both entered the game with an 0-1 record looking for their first win of the season.

It was a heart-breaker for a West Seattle team who started strong but lost their cohesiveness as well as a couple key players along the way, and the Patriots prevailed 32-22 in a hard fought game.

West Seattle struck on their first trip down the field, leaning on their tank, #22 Fynniecko Glover. He rattled off straight runs 10 and 22 yds. Then QB #17 Robert Harrelson completed pass to 20 yard pass to #12 Carter Golgart, setting up a 4 yard scoring run for Glover. The Wildcats sent in big boy #66 William Jones for a 2 point conversion, putting West Seattle up 8-0 early in the first quarter.

Washington charged back when Washington's #10 Kody Martinez intercepted a Wildcat pass and returned it 60 yards for a TD. At the end of the first quarter, West Seattle was up 8-6.

information from Southwest Seattle Historical Society

Young, old or anywhere in between, there is no better place for you to be on Saturday, Nov. 8, 2014, than our Champagne Gala Brunch!

With a program featuring West Seattle deejay Marty Riemer, a half-dozen West Seattle-based music luminaries and the mother-son-daughter combination of Vicki Schmitz-Block, Dietrich Schmitz and Julie Schmitz Broker, this year's Gala promises to be rousing and memorable.

It certainly will be as inspiring as its theme, "Rebirth: Celebrating the Restoration of the Admiral Totem Pole," reflecting the passion of the historical society’s biggest event of the year (and any year), the June 6, 2014, unveiling of the restored pole at the organization’s "Birthplace of Seattle" Log House Museum.

West Seattle grad Isaiah Jenkins is part of EWU football success

By Gerardo Bolong
CONTRIBUTING WRITER

Persistence and patience are two apparent traits of Isaiah Jenkins' personality.

His high school career featured many accomplishments and honors. He earned first team All-Metro League Sound Division honors as both a wide receiver and defensive back. As a senior, he accounted for 434 yards on 23 receptions while hauling in five touchdown catches. In that year, he led the Wildcats to a 6-4 record and a share of the Metro League Sound Division regular season title. As a junior, he helped West Seattle win its first eight games before the team fell in the playoffs. For that season, Jenkins earned second team All-Metro League Sound Division honors both as a wide receive and defensive back.
During his Eastern Washington football career, the 2010 West Seattle High School graduate has persevered through good and hard times.

Following a redshirt 2010 season, Jenkins saw significant action at the end of the season to earn his letter.
