Kohl-Welles aims to ease regulation on cannabis health and beauty aid products

Cannabis health and beauty aid products would not be subject to the same regulations as marijuana concentrate or marijuana infused products, under Senate Bill 5493,introduced today by Sen. Jeanne Kohl-Welles, D-Seattle.

“This bill is about promoting small businesses and allowing entrepreneurs to find new ways to drive our economy, without legal recourse, as we continue to be pioneers in the marijuana legalization process,” said Kohl-Welles. “And topicals can be very soothing on sore muscles.”

Cannabis health and beauty products are not intended to be mood-altering and have no psycho-active effects. Examples of these products, according to Kohl-Welles, are body lotion, soaps, and salves—none of which is ingested. Under Kohl-Welles’ proposal, cannabis health and beauty products would not be able to contain a THC level higher than 0.3 percent, they would not be allowed for human consumption and they would not be able to cross the blood-brain barrier which leads to intoxication.

SLIDESHOW: Lancers near crown

BY GERARDO BOLONG

Kennedy Catholic used stick-to-itiveness and a trio of double figures scorers in holding off Renton in a tough 56-49 Seamount League home girls basketball victory on Wed., Jan. 21., in Burien. This win pushed the first place Lady Lancers (10-0) into a two-game strangle hold over Renton and Evergreen (White Center) who share second place records of 8-2 with four league games remaining.

"There was no quit in them," said KC head coach Greg Caldwell. "Collectively our defense was tough tonight. We wanted to press them and not give up anything easy. They were resilient that way and everybody helped each other."

With their spacing over the Indians only 40-37 just 49 seconds into the fourth quarter, Kennedy Catholic fought off Renton's persistent challenges.

Co-captain Nikki Miller, whose outside shooting presence was formidable, then fired home a corner 3-pointer, but Shelby Proctor answered on two consecutive inside baskets to bring Renton within 43-41.

SLIDESHOW: SCS cruises by Highline

BY GERARDO BOLONG

It was a circumstance of conducting itself as a unit for the visiting squad.

Nisqually League 1A Seattle Christian took control in all phases of the game early to record a 44-22 girls basketball victory at Seamount 3A Highline in Burien on Tues., Jan. 20.

"We were just giving all our effort," a relaxed Madelyn Weber said after scoring 13 points on 5 of 7 field goal shooting.

Although happy with this game, she admitted to some annoyance about a recent loss.

"We have a chip on our shoulder since we lost to Charles Wright. "It's a matter of continuing to play as a team."Weber also collected seven caroms off the glass to go along with two blocked shots.

The home Pirates showed snippets of speed to trail by only 9-6 after one quarter.

By halftime, the Warriors had extended their benefits to 20-8 and continued to roll up the score courtesy of the their tough defense. Kelli Ronish, Taelor Willhoite, Jessa Henry, Abby Louie and Weber collaborated for the 13-2 third quarter thrust that created a score of 33-10 after three quarters.

SLIDESHOW: Pirates zone out Warriors

BY GERARDO BOLONG
Contributing Writer

Suffocating second half zone defense ignited the Seamount League 3A Highline Pirates to a 57-45 boys basketball win against the visiting Nisqually 1A Seattle Christian Warriors on Tues., Jan. 20.
"We finally realized that when we make the extra pass we can run our offense" Pirate head coach Shane Stenesen said. "It was our defense that set it up, though. In the second half our 2-3 zone had all five players with hands up. When the defense runs as a team, that's what it takes to get W's."
Trailing 30-26 at the half, Highline packed in its zone with hands up to effectively cut off Seattle Christian drives to the basket. Still relying on outside shooting the Warriors were rendered even less reliable on offense while drawing no shooting fouls for the entire half.

In contrast to first half perimeter offense dependency of their own in the first half, the Pirates shot 8 of 15 from the free throw line after missing their only charity toss in the first half.

HHS gradually ate away the SCS lead to trail only 34-32 with just more than five minutes left in the third quarter.

Delridge Grocery Co-op: $25K more to permitting, less than 300 more members to open

By Amanda Knox

Last we heard from them http://www.westseattleherald.com/2014/02/28/features/delridge-sustainin…, Delridge Co-op, the grassroots grocery mission for the Delridge corridor, was hosting music events at Skylark Café in order to inform the local public of their activity and attract potential members. Now, almost a year later, the Co-op is so close to finally opening it hurts. The board members, however committed, are weary. “They’ve been at it so long and it’s been completely volunteer,” explains Ranette Iding, a member of the board.

UPDATE: No overflow at King County’s Murray Pump Station after power loss

UPDATE 1-23-15
After additional investigation, the operations staff for King County concluded that they did NOT experience an overflow from the pump station.

The operations crews first took data from a sensor that initially indicated that water level in the pump station overflowed the weir, but a sensor further down the system in an outfall pipe and visual inspections indicated that no wastewater left the pump station.

Original Post 1-22-15

information from King County

King County sewer utility crews quickly stopped an overflow at the Murray Pump Station that was caused by an early-morning power failure in West Seattle.

The overflow lasted about 3-5 minutes, spilling an estimated 19,000 gallons of wastewater into Puget Sound near Lowman Beach Park.

Crews engaged a mobile generator currently staged at the site and quickly restored normal operation.

King County notified health and regulatory agencies about the overflow, took water quality samples, and posted signs warning people to avoid contact with the water.
