Named Chiropractor of the Year

Dr. Leslie White, a Burien, doctor of chiropractic, has been named “Chiropractor of the Year” by the Washington State Chiropractic Association (WSCA). He was honored with the WSCA’s highest award at the WSCA Annual Conference on Oct. 10 at the Hilton Seattle Airport & Conference Center in Seattle. The 1000-member WSCA is the only statewide association that represents the chiropractic profession in Washington State.

Dr. White operates Burien Chiropractic Center at 445 S. 152nd Street in Burien. He is a 1967 graduate of Palmer College of Chiropractic in Davenport, Iowa and has been in practice for 48 years.

He has been very actively involved in serving the chiropractic profession in Washington State throughout his career. He is a founding member of the WSCA and leads its Selection Committee. He is also a member of the American Chiropractic Association. Dr. White is a Fellow in the Academy of Chiropractic Orthopedics and a Diplomate in the National Board of Chiropractic Examiners. He is an approved Chiropractic Consultant and an approved Independent Medical Examiner for the Washington state Department of Labor and Industries.

Sports events worth keeping an eye on

Girls soccer
Highline and Seattle Christian are both playing home matches to open state tournament play on Tuesday of this week.
Highline hosts Black Hills for 7 p.m. action at Highline Memorial and the Warriors will play Overlake at 6 p.m. at French Field in Kent.
A win would advance either team into state quarterfinal action this weekend.

Football
Kennedy Catholic of Burien and Seattle Lutheran of West Seattle are both playing opening round state playoff games at 7 p.m. Friday.
The Lancers are on the road at Bellevue as the Saints travel to Pacific County to play Naselle.

Volleyball
Kennedy Catholic also made the state tournament in volleyball and will be playing this weekend at the Toyota Center in Kennewick.
The Lancers open with an 8 a.m. match against Stanwood and play again at 5 p.m. if they win or 3:15 p.m. if they lose.
The tournament lasts through Saturday.

Seattle Christian graduate Katie Collier is back for her redshirt junior season with the University of Washington women's basketball team.
Collier is a 6-foot, 3-inch forward/center for the Huskies.

Federal Way grad also back

Federal Way High School graduate Talia Walton returns as a redshirt senior with the University of Washington women's basketball squad.
Walton is a 6-2 forward.

McPherson shines for Vikings

Kennedy graduate Jennica McPherson continues to stand out for the Western Washington University women's volleyball team.
McPherson came through with 13 digs for the Vikings in a 3-0 victory over Concordia of Oregon on Saturday and had six kills, two blocks and 14 digs in a 3-1 win over Western Oregon on Thursday.

Swimmers place high in WCD meets

Area athletes came through with high finishes in West Central District meets on Saturday, even though there were no winners.

Emily Zacharias of Highline placed the highest in the Class 2A meet, taking second in the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2 minutes, 17.50 seconds.

Zacharias was also third in the 100 breaststroke with a 1:10.68 effort, helping the Pirates take seventh as a team with 94 points.

Reva Zacharias came in third in the 100 butterfly in 1:01.26 and also finished fourth for the Pirates in the 100 backstroke in 1:03.49.

Highline was also fourth in both the 200 medley relay (1:59.13) and 200 free relay (1:47.39).

Kennedy Catholic captured sixth place as a team in the 3A meet with 108 points.

The Lancers had Angela Gagliardo take second in the 100 breaststroke in 1:07.43 with Angelica Gill coming in third in the 100 backstroke in 1:03.44.

Madeline Kemp of JFK came in third in the diving competition with 294.05 points, just ahead of teammate Maddie Terry with 288.05. Christine Guadagaino nabbed ninth with a 208.15 score.

Kennedy advances to face Bellevue on Friday

Kennedy Catholic outgunned Roosevelt, 48-29, Friday to reach the state level of Class 3A football action.
The Lancers boast a 9-0 overall record following the win at Highline Memorial Stadium, but now must face No. 1-ranked Bellevue in a 7 p.m. road game this coming Friday.

The perennially powerful Knights are 9-1 overall, with the only loss being to an out of state team in California.

Both Kennedy and Roosevelt showed their offensive prowess early in this past Friday's game.

The Roughriders from the Metro League scored first with 8:32 to play in the first quarter.

Dane Rogerson sliced through the middle for a 7-yard score and Michael Leshchyshyn kicked the extra point to make it a 7-0 game.

But Kennedy came right back and also scored on their first possession.

Shammah Finau did the honors from the 6-yard line at the 7:19 mark, after running for 38 yards two plays earlier.

Griffin Mathews booted the PAT and tied the score at 7-7.
