Admiral Theater, Alki Homestead and Youngstown beneficiaries as part of $28.4 million cultural facilities grants

A $28.4 million investment in capital improvement grants to 100 cultural facilities and projects across King County was signed by Executive Dow Constantine with two locations in West Seattle seeing some funding.

A grant for $95,000 for the Admiral Theater (now undergoing restoration with the next phase due to start early next year) and more than $45,000 for the Alki Homestead, also in the process of being restored by new owner Dennis Schilling. Youngstown Cultural Arts Center on Delridge Way through the Delridge Neighborhood Development Association – Elevate Youngstown – is due for $100,000.

In a press release from King County they detailed the extent of the grants.

"I proposed Building for Culture to leverage lodging taxes paid by visitors, and reinvest them in the bricks and mortar of museums, theaters, and heritage sites so we can continue to attract more visitors and locals alike," said Executive Constantine. "What's special is the depth and breadth of these investments - youth and ethnic heritage centers; the historic theatres of downtown Seattle and new cultural destinations countywide; landmarks and treasured historic buildings."

Metro Transit, Water Taxi have upcoming holiday schedules

Thanksgiving schedules in effect Nov. 26 and 27

information from King County

King County Metro Transit reminds riders that buses will operate on Sunday and reduced weekday schedules over the Thanksgiving holiday and during several holiday periods through January – including a full week of reduced service at the end of December. The King County Water Taxi also has service changes on holidays.

On Thanksgiving Day, Thursday, Nov. 26, Metro will operate a Sunday schedule. On Friday, Nov. 27, Metro will operate reduced weekday service, which offers more service than on weekends, but somewhat less service than on normal weekdays. Details are posted on Metro’s holiday and reduced service page. Under a Community Mobility Contract created by County Executive Constantine and funded by voter-approved Prop 1, regular bus service will be provided on Nov. 27 on about three dozen routes within the City of Seattle that were previously reduced during holiday periods.

Metro offices, including the Customer Information phone line, and Lost and Found and Pass Sales counters, will be closed on both Thursday and Friday. The Customer Information Office at 206-553-3000 will reopen Monday morning.

Wolverines topple Tyee to keep trophy

By Tim Clinton

This traveling trophy isn't going anywhere for at least another year.

Evergreen High School has kept the hardware for the Tyee vs. Evergreen Staff/Alumni Basketball Game since its inaugural clash three years ago, including an 87-80 Wolverines victory over the Totems on Friday.
"It hasn't needed to travel," said Tyee athletic director John Yellam. "The first time Tyee lost by about 10, last year it was by two, and this year it was by seven."

Even though Yellam and the Totems would have liked to have nabbed the trophy for the first time, they weren''t complaining.

"It was good, it was fun," said Yellam of the game. "At an event like this everyone wins."

"It was another successful night," agreed Evergreen athletic director Chris DuBois.

This year the event raised between $300 and $400 for the Kenney Bui Memorial Scholarship Fund, which honors the Wolverines football player who died after sustaining a head injury this fall.

Aside from gate receipts, the fund also increased by way of frequent raffles of prizes throughout Friday's game.
