Car prowls and package theft are all too common during the holiday season

Seattle Police offer information on how to prevent them and what to do

The Seattle Police Department's Crime Prevention Coordinator Mark Solomon shared this information about crime during the holidays regarding car prowls and package theft.

CAR PROWLS

We feel we have an unacceptable number of reported Car Prowl incidents for our Precinct. The level of Car Prowls, Auto Accessory Thefts and theft of license plates for the Southwest Precinct shows a 14% increase compared to this time last year.

Car prowls are crimes of opportunity that are committed within seconds. They are expensive, inconvenient, and aggravating for victims.

Thieves are targeting vehicles of all makes and models for valuables, including:
packages, GPS devices, laptops, cellular phones, cameras, purses, luggage, cash and garage remotes
Most stolen property is traded or sold within minutes of the crime, lowering the chance of recovery. Thieves commonly break windows for entry, but many are also successful at defeating door and trunk locks.

Prevention: Be Consistent
· Remove all valuables from your vehicle every time you park.

Man is wounded twice by gunfire and drives away unaware

According to a 25 year old shooting victim, he was shot twice in West Seattle Saturday night after he had an encounter with someone he said was "talking all crazy" but drove to White Center, unaware he was even shot.

The Seattle Police Blotter said:
"The victim said he was exiting a convenience store around 9 PM in the 9000 block of Delridge Way SW when he was approached by a man who was “talking all crazy.” The victim said he felt threatened and pulled out a revolver firing it once into a nearby fence. The victim said the man ran to a waiting truck, retrieved a gun and returned fire before driving away.

The victim told police he, too, drove away from the scene before noticing he had been shot in both legs. The victim contacted King County deputies in the 10400 block of 16 Ave. SW after realizing he was bleeding. Medics took the victim to Harborview Medical Center for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.
SPD detectives are reviewing evidence located at the shooting scene and are asking for witnesses to call (206) 625-5011 to speak with an officer.
