Two year old girl saved by Seattle Police after close call in retention pond

Seattle Police officer Tyler Keating saved a two year old girl's life on Saturday after she was found in a retention pond near her High Point home.

Her parents called 911 to report their daughter missing just before noon on Saturday. They reported last seeing the child in the backyard of their home where some family members were watching her.

Officers arrived within three minutes and were told the child had been found in a retention pond near the home. Officer Keating reached the child first and discovered she was not breathing and had no pulse. After quickly calling medics, Officer Keating started CPR and then reported she now had a pulse and shallow breathing.
Medics arrived and took over treatment, taking the now crying girl to Harborview Medical Center for further treatment.

Full Tilt Ice Cream named Official Ice Cream of the Space Needle

Wheedle on the Needle is the flavor: Named after noted children's book

In yet another marketing triumph for Justin Cline and White Center's Full Tilt Ice Cream, the company has been named as the official ice cream of the Space Needle. While they will supply five flavors to the landmark restaurant a special one has been concocted called Wheedle on the Needle (orange creamsicle with maraschino cherries) after the noted children's book by Stephen Cosgrove. Cosgrove granted permission for the name.

The ice cream will be a permanent flavor on the menu and part of their Lunar Orbiter Sundae. It is part of what Cline calls the "Icon Series" for Full Tilt in which 19 Seattle notables will be honored with a flavor. It will begin with a flavor honoring librarian Nancy Pearl and continue for 22 weeks. Archie McPhee, Pearl Jam, Frances Farmer, J.P. Patches and others are part of the series.

Cline said the Space Needle sells 120 gallons a week and they expect that to triple by summer.

The biggest seller in the shop is still Salted Caramel flavor followed by vanilla.

Value Village hosting interactive art installation on Earth Day on Alki

On April 22, Earth Day, Savers/Value Village, the global thrift store chain, will host an interactive art installation at Alki Beach that asks people to consider their clothing footprint and to rethink reuse.

Every year, North Americans send 10.5 million tons of clothing to landfills, 95 percent of which could have been recycled or reused. This installation is made from thousands of pieces of used clothing and represents the impact your decisions about how to dispose of used clothing have on the environment. This visually arresting wake-up call asks people to rethink reuse—spare landfills and resources by donating your used goods/ buying stuff that lasts/ buying used clothing.

As a purpose-driven thrift store chain focused on reuse, Savers/ValueVillage kept nearly 650 million pounds of reusable items out of landfills last year—including more than 45 million pounds of clothing, textiles and other items from local landfills in Washington state. https://www.savers.com/rethinkreuse

Westside Snow Report 4-7-16

By Greg Whittaker

It’s predicted to be record breaking temperatures in Seattle today, so it’s a perfect time to remind you, the skiing is stellar in the cascades this time of year. With anywhere from 8 to 16 inches falling on the resorts April 5th and 6th, we have some of the most amazing spring conditions coming up these upcoming weekends.

Nate our GM and lead tech just walked in the door from Crystal says it’s not quite freezing at night right now, so get up early and rip it up and be ready to après-ski around 1. If you’re riding in the afternoon bring a little extra wax because you will need it.

Certain areas are backing off on operations, so check before you go, but the midweek crowd is still good to go at Summit at Snoqualmie, Crystal, and Stevens Pass.

Mt. Baker is moving towards weekend operations only.

Fun events are planned such as the Crystal Mountain Bikini Downhill, The Stevens pass Rhythm and Bruise Fest, and the as yet to be announced Cinco De Mayo Celebration at Alpental.
